I'm afraid I have had a run of bad luck this year, or rather, my dog has, and my insurance policy has been hammered. It is 'More Than', and they have been brilliant. They settle up so fast you will have the cheque before your credit card bill comes through! I 'More Than' recommend them.
I have always used Petplan and, even after thousands of piunds worth of claims for one dog, it wasn't until he was twelve they hiked the excess, they always paid out, no fuss, no quibble, and fast.
Lynwood, how did you come across your name? Only interested because my dogs have the prefix of Lynwood.
I use petplan lifetime for my older dog and Tesco for the pup. Petplan gives the best cover/service but IMO it isn't worth paying the higher premium for the lifetime veterniary cover until the dog is a bit older. Petplan is about twice the price of tesco.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with this. For example, the dog I mentioned in my previous post, for whom I have claimed £500 and will have ongoing costs, had a serious eye injury on holiday and had to have the eyeball stitched and grafted by a specialist eye surgeon. Although he did a brilliant job and saved the eye, she will have to have checks for the rest of her life, and is more likely to develop glaucoma and/or a cataract in the future. My policy fortunately has life cover as standard. She is only 5, and an accident can happen at any age - you won't be covered for pre-existing conditions when taking out extra cover for the first time.
I also have a Yorkie, who is on Petplan, with the optional extra life cover, and I'm glad of that because a short while after taking it out, he was diagnosed with a luxating patella. This can cause arthritis in later life, and in the short term, I have to decide whether to put him through the operation to deepen the groove the patella sits in. I don't have to rush this decision though because his cover is for life. He is only 18 months old.
Life cover is definitely worth it. I wish they did it for horses
