I just had a call from my mum, she was in tears. Our old ridgy was let out this morning and she didnt come back :(

The pair of them are always let out into the garden first thing for wees and poos, the door then stays open all day if the weather is nice and the dogs come and go as they wish. The garden is dog proof because the terrier likes to sod off.

The ridgy has NEVER gone outside the garden without one of us, ever.

She is coming up 12 years old and not in the best of health. This is petrifying :(

I am heading over to mams as soon as I can get myself together enough to drive.

I'm sorry I dont know why im posting, im just sat in tears here on my own.

When I get to mams I will go out through the fields looking, I dont know how I will cope if I find her dead :(

If cayla sees this, could you keep a lookout for her? she is full rhodesian ridgeback, has alot of lumps and bumps and a graying muzzle. She is fear aggressive / very very nervy but will come to you if you let her approach you. She really is a lovely dog.

Sending loads of vibes, hope you find her soon. Just a thought, is she deaf, could she just have gone somewhere out of sight in the garden for a kip and not hear that she is being called.

Thank you everyone.

I found her hidden away in a bush in the garden. She had passed away :(

My mum was searching the other side of the garden. I had to tell her that her dog was dead :(

This has honestly been the hardest day of my life, I had to be very strong and look after my mum but I have not stopped crying.

I told my mum to stay in the house so I could climb into the bushes to check she was deffinately gone, a workman came and helped me carry her body out of there.

She is now wrapped in a sheet and the covers from her doggy bed in the shade away from the flies. I had to clean her up before I could let my mum see her.

I let the old terrier sniff at her for a little while and he just lay down next to her. He has barely moved from her side :(

Having found my girl dead in the garden a couple of weeks ago, I know how you feel. Its such a shock. Hope you and your mum are ok, really sorry for your loss. xx

So sorry for your loss, as someone else has said atleast she passed away in a place that she knew.

May she Rest in Peace.

Oh I am so so sorry. She went to sleep at home in the sunshine and wasn't stressed. Good night God Bless sweet girl. J XX

Thank you everyone, we had known the end was near for her but she was behaving normally this morning according to my mum, but was restless last night.

She was a fantastic dog, she grew up with my brother and I and she never once put a paw out of place with either of us, despite her size and 'scary dog' breed. I doubt I will ever meet a more loyal dog.

I just hope she was not in pain for any amount of time :(

Oh. Huge hugs, to you and you mum. I'm sure she passed away peacefully and was secure in the surroundings she knew so well. Rip x

Oh bless you Lauren x

Loyal to the end, would it not have been worse if she dropped in front of you or your Mum? She took herself away to a quiet spot in a place she loved and passed away peacefully, what a great girl.

Im so sorry hun:( thats got to be a shock to you all, esp thinking she was missing, for whats it's worth, it msut have been peaceful and quick for her, it's almost how we would all like our dogs to go when the time has come, still my heart goes out to you xxxxx sleep tight big girl x

How sad, my thoughts are with you and your mum. Please try and find comfort in the fact she died in familiar surroundings, in the garden she loved.

Its very poor comfort at the moment but try to think that she died so peacefully, no strees of having to go the vets etc. Given a choice I would rather mine went that way.

But as I said, poor comfort to you mourning the loss of your dog. Sorry for both you and your mum - losing a dog who has been such an integral part of your life is awful and we never forget them.

Thank you everyone. You all set me off in tears again with your kind words.

My dad and brother both arrived home far far far too quickly to have stuck to speed limits after I called them and broke the news. My brother is completely heart broken, when we got Kizzy he would have only been 7 - she slept on his bed and wrestled on the floor with him ever since.

We all sat down together and decided to say goodbye to her quietly, with no fuss from vets and post motems. My dad and brother burried her in a quiet spot in the garden, just along from where she chose to die. We were all in tears and I am so so proud of my brother for doing it.

I really do believe that she chose to go to that spot, knowing it was the end and not wanting to die infront of us. Bless her.

She will be missed :(

Couldn't have put it better myself.

So very sorry for the loss of your faithful girl.

I am so desperately sorry and know how heart wrenching it is to lose not just a dog, but a member of the family :(

What a lucky dog she was to be so loved xx

I missed this post enitirely.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
How lovely she went peacefully and at home though.
RIP Kizzy. x
Huge hugs to you and the rest of the family x

Thank you all for your replies and your kind words.

She was a very much loved member of the family, she is burried in her fave sunbathing spot and although the pain is still so very raw I do think knowing she is still 'around' will help us all.

I dont think the ridgy shaped hole will ever be filled, she was one in a million. When I am feeling less tearful I think I might add to the 'in memory of' thread.

Thank you all again, you have all been an excellent support to me.
