The last week or so Charlie has as said in title not been off his food but neither has he been overly interested in it like he normally is. It started off with him having a few mouthfuls then running to the back door (they have been trained to go to the toilet after meals). So I let him out thinking he must need the toilet, let him back in and he looks for his dinner so I put it back down for him. This then started becoming a habit so then I tried letting him out before just incase he needed a wee so he could concentrate on eating his dinner. Didn't work he just did the same thing. He is on chappie atm which I have tried adding bits of meat to, putting some banana in, mixing with gravy and a good squirt tomato ketchup. He isn't off his food as he will still eat it just a little unwillingly and still sits at my feet eyeing up mine! I'm starting to think we might need to change brands as he might just be getting bored of it. Any suggestions as to why he might be doing this? Anything I could try to tempt him to eat it a bit more? Or finally any dried food similar to chappie that is low in protein I could try him on to see if he is just bored of it? (they are hyper-active dogs as it is without an added energy boost!)

You could change brands, or after a certain time, ten minutes or so, you could just lift it and offer again at the next meal time. I do this with my bitch, if he doesn't eat it in a certain time frame, it is removed and I cut her rations a bit the next day.

What quantity are you giving him, and what age/size/breed is he?

My Labs like this
He doesnt like gravy or pedigree canned stuff. I think he just gets abit sick and bored
Now we either feed him some cooked sausages/beef slices or meatballs which he loves and always finishes it

Have you tried feeding to dogs at different times, maybe he's just sick of the same routine?

He is having 180g twice a day. Hes around 24kg I think, collie x spaniel (but about 60 cm tall and the biggest collie or spaniel I've ever seen) so medium/large dog. OH has suggested cutting down his rations but he's only eating a few mouthfuls before he looses interest so I don't think that he is full (if dogs ever can be full!) He has always had a very healthy appetite and will eat anything put infront of him apart from salad!
