I have a 4 year old border collie, she is a rescue dog and was previously deprived food/had to scavenge for what she had. We have had her 2.5 years, in that time she has NEVER missed a meal, even when she had a slab fracture on her tooth.

This morning she refused her breakfast, thought maybe she was feeling a little ill, she tends to eat fox/cat poo. Seems fine in herself, enjoyed her walk, played with the ball, played with the other dog.

Didnt eat her dinner either. She will eat the meat if you hand feed it, but sniffs the bowl, walks off and keeps coming back.
When she takes a mouthful of food, and eats it, she goes and rubs her face.

She has always done this, though. Her teeth look good (just checked) and are brushed regularly, so no build up of plaque/gingivitis. Mouth doesn't look sore either.

I'm obviously concerned it's her teeth. Her canines are all worn down on the ends (from trying to gnaw her way out of a cage or something, we think) and the dentin appears to be exposed, but again has always been like this and we have discussed this and the face rubbing with the vets and they didnt seem concerned.

Obviously we will be booking an appointment tomorrow, but just a bit worried about her tonight!

Poor thing! If she doesn't seem in pain or discomfort, then waiting til vets in morning should be ok. (otherwise suggest calling emergency vet).

Have you got any special food that she likes to try & tempt her (fresh chicken, cheese, fish?)?

Hope is better soon :)

No need for emergency vet, she is fine in herself other than that.

Just cooking up some chicken and rice, but as I say she usually hoovers everything up with no particular favourite.

Thanks :)

just tried some chicken and rice, and shes not very interested. didnt eat it unless hand fed.
So not like her, usually it wouldnt touch the sides :(

She doesnt seem to want to chew it, and does a strange burp after she eats each mouthful.

Very odd.

Edit - Shes just been sick, so maybe she has just picked something up.

Are her gums a nice salmon pink colour ? Is her temperature normal ?

It may be that she has something stuck in her stomach. I would at least call the out of hours vet to discuss if she has been sick.
