sorry guys total rant at the moment, just need to vent some steam.

took taz for a nice long gallop tonight round a field really close to the yard and thought i'd make it more interesting for him and take him round another field on the way home, so had to cross through the woodland track for like 2 minutes to join the two fields up, which is a track that i ride on almost every day

This is where it all took a turn for the worst, as soon as i got through the open gate into the woods out comes dog out of no where barking like mad and start chasing and snapping at taz's feet, now he's only five so didnt really expect him to be calm, he got a fright and took off. Then out comes another dog from the other side and i end up on top of an electric fence! with taz stood totally shaking with fear and the dogs at this point are still barking at him and trying to bite him.

I try to untangle myself from the fence while getting electric shocks and trying to hold onto taz at the same time, not very succesfully might i add, and the owners of the dogs have stood and watch the whole thing! then had the cheek to say i should learn how to stay on my horse when "it" gets a fright! as it isnt their fault that their dogs chased after me!

I decided to keep my mouth shut as i was so angry by this point having only got myself untangeld from the fence and managed to fix it as i'd broke the handle as its a gate, so that the cows couldnt escape and jumped back on and walked him home.

Thought tonight was going to be a good hack but ovbioulsy not, i just wish dog owners would be a bit more responsible they could have came over and got their dogs away from taz while i was trying to get untangled from the fence but no, they just stood and watched.

so now i have burn marks up my left arm and on my hands from touching the electric fence for so long, and dont think i will be cutting through the woodland track any time soon

sorry for such a long post guys just thought i would rant a bit, have some wine and some cookies if u read it all, im having cookies :) no wine though as ive taken pain killers :(

Aw that sounds awful. Hope the burns stop being sore quickly. And hope your horse doesn't have any lasting effects either.

Some people are just too stupid to function normally in everyday life. Others are just too inconsiderate to function along with the rest of society. These people sound like they were either one, the other, or both of these things.

Keep the wine for tomorrow. In fact i would have had it instead of painkillers ;)

Poor you - how horrid! I wonder if they would have stood and watched while Taz gave their dogs a good hard kick? You'd think they'd want to call their dogs back for the dogs' safety even if they don't care about you and your horse. As a dog owner myself, I hate when others are so irresponsible. It gives us all a bad name.
I recommend lots of chocolate. That's bound to help!

If you know the owners of the dogs report them to the police. It really ticks me off when people behave like this.Fortunately(I hope) most dog owners are responsible.
Hope you feel better soon

surprisingly i'm not to bad, but think the pain killers have kicked in and the cookies are getting to my head, more worried about taz really as he's easily worried as it is, so hoping if i stay away from the track for a while then take him down on the long reins he should be alright

Thats awful. I have had a dog snapping at me so made my horse stand still and the owner didn't do anything when I was asking her to catch her dog - she only moved quickly when I told her that my horse had a habit of kicking dogs that snap at his legs. Really sorry you had such a bad experience. I am biased having horses and dogs as all mine are introduced and learn quickly to stay well away from legs.

Omg thats nasty!!! :(
i wonder what they wouldve said if their dogs got hurt or killed from your young horse spooking.....im sure it wouldve made them think twice about standing and watch someone struggle and get injured whilst trying to calm down a terrified young horse, All because of THEIR dogs :/ i dont mean to sound horrible or anything but people like that really do need to take more responsibilty... :( Hope you and your horse are ok x

Hope you are feeling better in a day or two, and your horse hasn't got too much of a fright. Perhaps there are nice dogs belonging to friends or at your yard which you can use to re-train him that not all dogs are so horrid.
