Our 11yr old std poodle has Cushing's disease and until about 2 weeks ago had a great apetite. She is on Vetroyl daily. Now the eating is a big problem, she won't touch her food and for the past 3 days has been given tuna & brown rice, and scrambled egg & brown rice. She is eating this but her poo is bright orange and the rice is not digested at all. So basically it looks like vindaloo - rice included!!!! In all my years with this dog when she has been ill she has been put on boiled rice and I have never seen it in her poo before!!

So question is, is this normal?

How long has she been on the vetoryl? In dogs with Cushings its usual for them to have big apetites and thirst and you would expect this to reduce on the medication but I would be concerned if she continues to refuse food. Cushings is caused by an overproduction of cortisol but there is an opposite condition called Addisons disease where they have insufficient cortisol. If the dose of her meds is a little high you can start to get symptoms of Addisons - basically not eating and diarrhoea - so might be worth getting her checked over. She might need an ACTH stimulation test (I'm sure she'll have had one of these before) to check that the dose of the meds is correct. It might be worth checking her liver and kidney parameters too if she's been on the meds for a while.
Good Luck hope she's feeling better soon.

Thanks HH & Ann, things have not improved, her form is fine but poos remain the same and some days much worse. Going to speak to vet tomorrow, she has not had a ACTH in 3 months as she was concidered stable but I think there is something not right!
