My westie is 9 months old ish now.
I would like to take her out to some dog shows and things, have no idea what classes or what ill enter her in yet. so any suggestions much appreciated.

Where is the best place to find dog shows?

go on the kennel club website and find your local ring craft classes. Or google ringcraft classes in your area. They will help you prepare your dog to show as there is an art to preparing them and will also suggest the best shows both locally and nationally for her. I am sure there will be a Westie breed club, they will be able to help you as well about which classes. I know that there are loads of open shows for Westies all over the country.

If your Westie is clipped just go to Companion shows ..doing AV puppy and Sporting. She MUST be handstripped for breed classes at any other type (Open or Champ) of show and it would be a waste of your money. However there is quite a little community of people who go to companion shows and take their day out seriously.

I would find some ringcraft classes in your area. Show dogs take a fair bit of training. They need to learn to stand in the right position, have a judge go over them and look at their teeth etc. The owner needs training too as they need to know what they are doing or they end up looking silly. A big part of it is showmanship and preparation. If you have a pet shop they might have info on where they are held. If you get dog world or our dogs (doggy newspapers) they always have shows advertised with numbers to call for schedules, ringcraft classes usually have some too. Good luck with it, they are good fun and there are nice people but it does attract its fair share of biatchiness :D.

Just came back to this post as booking up her diary now.

Is it better to maybe start with some classes rather then one to one tuition.

Im really looking forward to getting her out.

I will tell you what we have been doing with our Lancashire Heeler who will be 1year old in May.

Atm we are taking her to ringcraft weekly and practicing handling her on the table, teeth etc at home.We are taking her out in the car regularly and meeting lots of other dogs, she is completely unfazed by all this and we hope it will stand her in good stead when we show her for the first time in May.
