x posted from another forum for someone, I believe she is contacting everywhere she can think of,mainly worried about the dog.

Yesterday while out hunting we left the box on the side of the road in Peover, near Knutsford, with a horse and my Border Terrier bitch, Jazz in it.

It was left for 45 mins, in that time it was stolen, horse, dog and 8 witney rugs, 8 sweat sheets, 8 headcollars and leadropes.

They dumped the horse on the main road about 5 miles away, in Goostrey, by Hermitage lane. My dog is still gone.

They may have dumped her in Peover, they may have dumped her in Goostrey, or the bastards might still have her.

She is microchipped, and has a collar on with her name and my number on. We think they drove South down the M6but god only knows where they are now.

Could anyone in the local area or further afield please keep an eye out for Jazz.

Dog is a small border about 20 ins to shoulder, and lean from lots of exercise

Hope you don't mind but I have crossposted this, the more people that know about it the better the chance of this little dog being returned to it's owners.

I was just going to post this.
I hope they find Jazz, although I think that is highly unlikely.
The horsebox was left with the keys in, so please everyone I know most of us are much more security concious, but DO NOT make life easy for these scumbags

I might be missing something but does anyone have the colour, make model and registration number of the horsebox?
If we knew this we just might see it in some travellers site and poor JAZZ might be there too !!!!!

I think we should all learn from this I too sometime leave my lorry insecure with the keys hidden, but I suppose scumbags can strike anywhere!

I do hope you get her back the rugs etc can be replaced but not your dog !

Lorry is an 8 horse Ford, silver unpainted hunting box no living. Reg Y393 KBA. White cab, no limiter on it so most probably going about 75mph. Body only built last year so quite new looking.

Edit to add, owner would be delighted for anyone to post elsewhere they think appropriate, and is grateful - thanks!

Just had this reply on one of the other forums

I assume you'll relay back then:

it might just be me, but I got a blank page from that link

Have you posted on www.doglost.co.uk and notified the chip company?
Keep a list of the places you've contacted and contact them again in a couple of days, don't sit and wait for them to ring you back

A dog went missing locally here and was picked up the next day, but thanks to the chip company going all 'data protection act' and the vet who scanned it (the dog's own vet btw), then the dog warden not tying up the lost dog record with the found dog record for over two weeks, the owner was searching the whole city for all that time when her dog was curled up in front of somebody else's fire waiting to be reunited with his owner Angry

I'll see if I can find a list of local councils for you to email systematically, you'll probably need to inform each individual branch of the RSPCA too (though that should be reasonably easy from their website). The PDSA are probably worth a shot too, as are any other rescue centres along the trunk roads from your location. Don't email head offices for any of the organisations, you'll probably get a better response from those on the ground at local offices who deal with real dogs

I don't know if it's possible, but you could find out if all vets can be emailed on a round robin through their governing body who's name always escapes me

edit: here's the councils list: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/hi/vote2007/maps/eng_councils/html/eng_counci...

Tell the owner to contact her Local Authority (LA) dog warden/animal warden too. Very often people forget about this and just go to vets and animal charities. The LA is the 'stautory authority' and are supposed to be responsible for all strays found in their district, unfortunately some charities and shelters dont inform them. The LA have a stautory obligation to hold the dog for 8 dyas. If the owner doesnt turn up they then hand them over for rehoming, and despite common myth it is extremley rare for them to be put down. It might be worth e-mailing or phoning all the neaby LA's. Some kind dog wardens have links with missing dog webs and other microchip companies too so may be able to put the word out for you.

Good luck, Jazz looks a bit like my dog Betty, I would be heartbroken to loose her.

according to doglost.co.uk the dog was returned (and reward paid), so that's good news at least

[/ QUOTE ]

Jazz was returned on Saturday, the reward money was given, plus an additional 'ransome' so a kind of happy ending, just annoys me that some scumbag wants to make a profit out of a pretty horrid affair!

I couldn't agree with you more- some people will sink to anything to make money

. At least the little dog is home- the owner must have been frantic. Was really pleased when I saw it had been returned.
