Not sure if something to worry about or not. Over the last couple of weeks, have noticed that now and again, Aled twitches, usually just his head. He is fine in himself, eating, drinking, playing as normal, but not something I’ve seen before in previous dogs. He’s a 12yo Border Collie. Asked the OH tonight, and he’s seen him do it a few times too. I do overly worry about him, he was very poorly last year and we never got to the bottom of it. Some sort of tummy bug. He’s usually awake when it happens, so not dreaming.

Probably nothing, but will mention it at next vet check up.

It's difficult not to appear to give a veterinary diagnosis, in answer to your question, and mostly on here we aren't qualified — BUT, as Aled seems to be untroubled by this twitch, it would be a sound guess at it being neurological and considering his age, simply something that you live with, working on the basis that if it doesn't appear to bother him, then perhaps you just accept it.

If I'm right, then any veterinary investigation may prove to be invasive and expensive with the only result being that at least you know what it is. I'm not sure if epilepsy occurs in dogs, but certainly in humans it takes many forms so perhaps a chat with the vet would put your mind at rest. From what you say, and considering Aled's age, I suspect that I'd leave well alone, but that's you you to decide.

Alec.

Thank you. I think we will just mention it at his next check up, but no, we wouldn’t want lots of invasive tests at his age.

I really don’t think he notices it himself, and as I said, overall, he’s very well.
