Can you believe this? I have a dog walker as there is no way on earth I could leave my dog alone all day with no walkies and company so I get myself a dog walker. Or so I thought....

Advertises herself as a dog lover who will treat your dog as if it were her own, blah, blah, blah what a load of rubbish.

It has now come to light that she quite often not only didn't walk my dog but in actual fact didn't bother to turn up at all.

My poor dog has NEVER wet or messed the floor yet without a visit from the dog walker has been alone for the best part of 8 hours. It breaks my heart to think how badly he must have needed the loo and also that he's missed out on some company and his walk.

I walk him every night when I get home but that is not the point. I am at work labouring under the false impression that my dog is happily running round the woods with his oh, so caring dog walker.

I am just LIVID. Ooooh, sorry to rant but hey, I don't care that she ripped me off but I really do care that my poor dog has suffered.

If you are in the Buckhurst Hill area and have a certain young lady (no I won't name and shame) check up on her very thoroughly.

AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH.

Oh poor you & doggie. I'd be furious as well.

I've just acquired a dog walker - I normally work from home but have to go to the odd day's meeting & like you would hate to think of my dog on his own all day.

At least you've found out now. Are you going to ask for your money back?

No, I have just asked for my keys back.

The reason I knew this time (it has happened before but she always had an excuse) was because I was off sick. I waited all day but no sign of her. I called her that evening from a number she wouldn't recognise and she answered all bright and breezy. I told her i'd been off all day and that she hadn't been to do Hugo and totally unconcerned she answered "no I didn't, that's right"

No apology no nothing. When she dropped the keys off which took two days, again not a hint of remorse or shame (I would have been mortified if it were me).

I am just incredulous that she could have been so damn cruel and not show the slightest concern. I trusted her and she totally abused it. Makes me worry that she even had keys to my house.....

I would be furious too. If I were you I would mention this to as many doggy people locally as you can, and at vets etc. Presumably you wouldn't be able to actually put notices up naming her (tempting I am sure) but I am sure other people who use her services would appreciate knowing how unreliable she really is.

That is bloody appaulling

, she cleary has no conscience, what a cheeky cow, I doggi walk, well I train them, but obs, part of that is walking them, I would never dream of not turning up, I have even took dogs extra days, when owners could not get home when they thought they would, or popped to their homes at no extra charge, when they have been held back at work.
It's a shame, cos now u will be wondering if u can trust anyone to do this job for you now, I would be naming and shaming the lazy cow

Also contact the sitting register, if she is on it, to grass the lazy bint, think of all the others, she is conning
crazy.gif

I also take play time vids and piccies, just cos I thought it would be nice for owners to see their dogs mixing and playing together, maybe u should ask for proof your dog actually gets out next time.

I would have done it slightly differently..I would have asked her how my dog was on his walk that day as I expect she would have said he had a lovely time. That means she has actually lied to you about taking him out, rather than just admitting she did not turn up. End of the day, your dog still missed out on his walks but you have more evidence of what she is like when letting others know about her.

It is awful that someone can take money for a job and not turn up, if she has done it to you she may be fleecing many owners the same way and just sitting on her lazy backside all day long with their money in her pockets. Definitely put the word around though.

I'd name and shame the cow then contact trading standards or something, or the police for fraudulently getting paid for work she hadn't done. Whatever did you say to her? I would have gone ape if she'd done that to my dogs

Ha, you have no idea how much I would have loved to have ripped her head off.

My OH was the calming influence for once! He said, get rid of her and then do the naming and shaming in a very quiet way. You can be sure I will be making sure that everyone in my area knows what she has done.

I am amazed that she is still advertising herself on the net. I am going to contact the host and let them know.

I confess to worrying about really getting after her for fear that she could easily slip something through my letter box and do the poor dog some harm.

I know that seems a little extreme but she clearly is no animal lover is she?

I will have my day with her...

Would a doggi flap be an option, till you sort something permanent or trustworthy

, so he can go to the toilet for now.

Wish I lived closer, he could join our doggi walking pack

I can believe it all too easily. I work and I don't have a dog walker in part because I would not trust them to turn up.

Just assume all their owners leave the house at 8.30 and get home at 5.30 - so everybody wants doggie walked at between 12-2 pm. How many dogs must be on your list in order for you to make a living? How many can you walk in that time? Who is going to know if you don't bother?

So assume you are an irresponsible dog-walker with 25 on your list - you find out which ones are house trained, walk the ones which will mess in the house without the walk (not many) otherwise, if they are clean, so owner will never suspect, you collect the money and don't turn up. Who is to know?

The better walkers might show up and let them into the garden for a few minutes, but I bet few dogs actually get the hour long run the owner thinks was promised.

And I am sorry I am so cynical, but I have worked with animals in the past and I know that everybody who works with animals isn't automatically wonderful - in fact, very few are. They might even start out with the best intentions but they probably get dissillusioned very quickly.

I totally agree, and I too would be sceptic, it's like everything, trust must be earned, I train and part of that is doggi walking, I used to have the puppies 4 hours a day, they have all reached a year now, and they are on hourly walks, I walk/train 4, OH is out as we speak with them, whilst I wait fro heating repair man
grin.gif

I would never have the gaul to not turn up, and would worry that the dog would have messed as course of my actions, she was obs making easy money, and not bothering, wo knows, how many, she has not bothered to walk
crazy.gif

I always make a point of picking up the mail and leaving it on the stairs or bench, to give my walkers extra reassurance, that I have been, I know they would never doubt me, they have plenty of piccies and vids, and often they are home when I drop the dogs back, esp when I had them for 4 hours a day.
It is a shame what the OP has experienced

It is a shame but I have often wondered about dog walking services, perhaps because I couldn't see how it could work financially as a business. I am sure some dog walkers really do provide a really good service - but knowing you've found the right one can't be easy.

Training is a bit different of course though how do you train the owners once you've trained the puppies
grin.gif

LOL, that is impossible
grin.gif
, the owners are a...LOSS.....the dog
grin.gif
are very
grin.gif
well behaved in my care, their owners, atleast 2 are useless and let them get away with murder, the point in having a trainer.....NONE
tongue.gif

I know what u mean re financially viable to dog walk, I only do 4, and they are all the same age, and where all puppies when I took them on.
They live a 1 minute drive from my house
grin.gif
, so it's costs me a miniscule amount in diesel, and this is not a main sourse of business, I have a boarding business, and im a night nurse (vet) 2 nights a week, It
grin.gif
was my friend that
grin.gif
gave my name out, when al 3 owners went into vets on same day looking for a trainer/walker....tadar..her answer was me

, and the last puppy was a rescue my mams rescue had rehomed, a puppy shar-pei.

I was told, that one girl, walked 12
shocked.gif
, and that she basically went from house to house, collecting dogs, then turned around and dropped them back off
crazy.gif
shocked.gif
, dogs never got out of van
shocked.gif
, it took her a good 2-3 hourse to collect them and drop back off, so dogs had been gone a good period of time....for a DRIVE
crazy.gif

Mine are literally in my car 2 mins, before I hit the first field, and all mine can be let off, so they knacker each other out, for the whole hour, then I take them back to mine, to chill for half hour, then take em back home.

I haven't read the other replies but I also had a problem with mine in London. I was working my notice at work and wanted a dog sitter until I left work as dooglie was a new puppy. Well she did sometimes turn up but my builders told me she didn't do anything with my puppy other than let him in the garden whilst she went into my lounge to eat her sandwiches, and when she was finished with her lunch she let the puppy back in
frown.gif

Lazy b!tch, did she not think there was a possibility, the builders would grass her, or u would atleast, ask them!!
confused.gif

It's seems Im a one off *polishes halo*
grin.gif
tongue.gif

I just dropped my lot off and phoned owners, to ask for towels to be left, as im returning them minging, as the fields are wet and clarty

You know what is daft about all this - If you say you have a dog and a dog walker comes in, everybody is happy. If you tell a rescue that you have hired someone as a dog walker, they will more than likely be happy to rehome one of their dogs to you but if you say it is left alone for several hours while you are at work, they probably wont.

So how many people actually end up paying a dog walker to leave the dog alone for several hours
