As most of you know i have two shiba inus, Isabel who is three and Elliot is just 12 months. In the last couple of months ive actually been having Isabel of the lead and she is really good :D
Elliot is kept on the lead because he doesent like other dogs :(

So today we are walking along and a black lab comes down the path towards us, turns out its the same one that attacked Elliot a couple of months ago :( of course Ell is growling and the lab went straight for him, i told her to get her dog and put it on the lead and she said her dog wasnt the problem, Ell was. I was so angry, this dog has attacked Elliot before and i saw it attack a small staffie last week. Had she put it on a lead, we would have all just passed by and carried on walking.

Elliot now sees all black labs as a threat. I was so angry i was in tears when i got back to the car. Why do a minority of ***** spoil it for everyone else?

you should have snapped back that "my dog is on the lead, therefore under control, yours isn't. My dog also wouldn't have this problem if your dog hadn't gone for him before" and walked off!

I know how it feels. Walk in a different area for a while where you won't meet her and get your confidence back.

Dont people like that do your head in, I expect if she has children they are equally unruly. One day that dog is going to pick a fight with the wrong dog and Im sure the Labs. owner will be up in arms.

Hope Elliot wasnt hurt and can you find him a Lab friend so he dosnt hate all Labs, I dont know what is happening with this breed but locally there are a few round here who will pick a fight with any dog. Luckily the owners are aware and keep them on leads. But I also know a few who are typical and love every dog they meet.

I sympathise hugely, had exactly the same thing recently with the owner refusing to recall her DA dog. :( It pees me right off that all my hard work with my dog has been wasted because he's back to square one after being attacked. :(

Is this idiot woman stereotyping your dogs because of their breed? I would suggest carry on walking where you want, report her to the dog warden.

I was looking at another forum where the OP had successfully reported the nasty dog to the Dog Warden and the Police (faint!) and the owner had been visited by both.

Refuse to let this idiot spoil your walks!

Its Labrador owners :D There were a fair few labs where I used to live, some a bit aggressive but owners aware of fact and either restrained dog or kept a good distance.

But one woman took the biscuit with her 3. She would park up at the footpath entrance, let them out the car and then absolve all responsibility.

I was coming down the footpath one day with my 3 rescue dogs all on leads, 2 aggressive muzzled terriers and one collie x lab with far better social skills as it turned out than my own!, to be met by the 3 labs with no owner in sight who proceeded to get more affronted by my 2 little ones, owner appears as hackles on labs are starting to raise but still ignores them,by now goading my 2 and it is only when all 3 of the labs piled in on my terriers and I screamed obscenities at her whilst kicking the big fat lumps off that she took any notice at all and this was to tell me off for kicking her bloody dogs!

We had a very very heated debate:rolleyes: involving a lot of effing and blinding. I said that in my opinion her 3 should be on leads when they met other dogs on leads, and she said why, they were not aggressive, and I pointed at my dear collie x lab who had stood there watching impassivly throughout and using him as an example said that he was not an aggressive dog, she, bless her, said she hadn't said he was but the terriers were and I said yes I knew that which is why they were on short leads and muzzled, and she reiterated that her dogs were fine with other dogs so there was no need to put them on leads ...:confused:

Could you report her to the dog warden for the dogs being out of control.
If I see people walking dogs on a leash I always put mine back on the leash as I don't know if the dog is on a leash because it will run off or because it's aggressive, at the same time if I see people walking dogs off leash I do assume they are ok with other dogs and leave them off leash.

Thank you for the replies, normally this dog is walked by different people, and when they see me they call it back. But yesterday it was a girl (late teen) who couldn't give a toss.

I've had this problem with all my dogs for years now, idiot owners who couldn't give a toss.Given up argueing, now I just boot the dogs off and if I get any lip from the owners I threaten to do the same to them, see how they like being attacked, at least I am giving them a warning, my dogs have no warning just get attacked for minding their own business.
Sick of it and idiot dog owners, they are on the increase too!

Report this to the dog warden. Next time you see this woman, tell her the dog has now been reported and she is the one in the wrong.

If I see another dog coming towards us, even my overly friendly "I love every dog in the world" staffie bitch is put onto a lead until I have checked the other dog is OK.

But good advice about finding a nice lab to resocialise yours though. Middle stafford boy hates large black dogs as nearly lost an eye to an attack as a very small 4 month old pup. It is taking me forever to get him to play nicely with a really sweet black retriever on our yard as he is terrified of her. By play nicely I mean ignore or just relax around her.

I agree - telling the woman her dog has been reported to the dog warden will put the wind up her (even if you haven't done it).

I keep mine on the lead around other dogs as Xara tries to pick a fight and Salem picks up on that and becomes aggressive.

However (depsite Salem being 10.5 stone of wolf) you do get the odd simpleton who allows their dog to wander over.....I actually get a sense of satisfaction when Salem starts growling and the other owner shits themselves and grabs their dog quick
