I have 2 Italian Spinone's. Amber is coming up 12 and Millie has just turned 1. Both are fully house trained.

Amber has occassionally wee'd downstairs on the living room carpet some time during the night. This is normally when the weather has been really bad and she's not 'gone out' properly just before bedtime. She has a conscience and is usually mortified.

When Millie was being house trained, if she ever did a wee in the night it was always by the back door on the lino.

Last weekend Amber wee'd in her usual spot on the carpet. It had been a bad night weather wise, so we put it down to that. However, she has wee'd a further 2 times in the same spot now, which is most unusual.

I will be taking her to the vet to get checked out. What is odd is that it only happens during the night. If they are left for any time during the day (not often, but happens) then she never wees in the house.

So, I guess I'm asking for advice on how to get the smell out. I've patted it with kitchen roll to get as much out as poss, and then washed it by hand with a dissolved washing tablet in hot water. I don't know if it's biological or not...I put down sodium bicarb during the week and that seemed to work....the dogs sleep upstairs in our bedroom....should I shut the door to the lviing room so she can't get to the place she wees in? Is she just going back to it because of the smell??

My Green cleaning book recommends bicabonate of soda, which is dirt cheap, sprinkle it liberally over the area leave overnight then hoover it up. It absorbs the odour and soaks up any moisture left.

It needs to be biological powder, the enzymes break down all the traces.

When you take her out do you just throw them out or do you go out with them.
I know my dogs need someone to go out and shiver with them otherwise they just stand by the door waiting and don't go to the toilet.

my terrier bitch has to be escorted out if the weather is bad as she runs out then immediately runs back in again and then wil normally have an 'accident' on the carpet. Funny old thing it doesn't happen if i stay outside with her to make sure she goes (normally when its p1ssing with rain)
