I was an evil parent on sat night and got back late. My poor boy had to wee on the carpet. A rather big one. I have cleaned twice now. Using proper industrial carpet cleaner lots of water scrubbed by hand and sucked up with my carpet cleaner. I thought I'd cracked it as no smell earlier. Just walked in and got a waft of stinky boy wee. I consider this hell mending me for the one and only time EVER I have caused him to do this :( (I am genuinely guilt ridden!). Any tips for getting rid of the smell? I fear I may have to bin the year old carpet. Scrub the concrete underneath and start again

Bio washing powder or liquid contains enzymes which break down the smell. Use then rinse. Repeat if necessary.

For things you can't wet then sprinkle with bicarbonate of soda, leave overnight then hoover up . Really good at absorbing smells.

If all the above fails and I have an industrial carpet shampooer but that can leave a smell too, then use a steam cleaner, make sure your carpet can take the heat before you dive it.
I have a small industrial dry steam cleaner, the reason there is still a smell is because bacteria are still in the carpet, bacteria make the smell.
The steam cleaner will kill ALL bacteria and with just water and no chemicals, no bacteria = no smell, it gets right to the bottom of the pile, it's also good for killing flea larvae and eggs if you have any of those in your carpets too.
