I've had my little JRT X for nearly 6 years now, and generally she's the happiest, most confident, well-adjusted dog I've ever known. She's always been very good about not scrounging for food and will never eat something unless invited to. But over the last couple of months a new behaviour's appeared. She won't drink unless I'm there. So if I'm in a different room, she'll stand by her water bowl and bark and bark until I come, then she'll drink. It's really strange! Any ideas what's going on?

Sorry I have no experience of this type of behaviour and it does sound strange. Could it be stress related? Has anything changed recently in your lives? Is she well in herself otherwise?

I d increase the sites of her water bowls..we have one in the kitchen, one in the lounge, one in bathroom ..then one in bedroom and one in bthrm upstairs ..oh and one in the taveretta which gets used before they go out or come in
Lol...my boy drinks when I'm there too...so this works for us..

My mums collie is a bit wrong in the head - well, she is a collie - and will normally only drink from an outside water bowl, not an inside one. Then recently she got a fright (someone slammed a door) while she was having a drink and then she would only drink from the bird bath, which is in our garden! Mum has, with much smoozing, managed to get her to drink from her bowl again but she has to stand next to her and the door has to be shut. Dogs are very odd things.

Thanks all. She's very well in herself and nothing's changed recently that I can think of. Having said that, I did use to have a water bowl in the bedroom but moved it to the bathroom as I kept kicking it over. Maybe that's the answer! Very strange.

ETA she has a variety of bowls: plastic, metal and ceramic!

Dogs can indeed be strange. Our terrier refuses to play wth his favourite toy if it has not been put away in the usual place before he is given it. :rolleyes4:
