My 9 year old Lhasa Apso has just been diagnosed with this condition after suffering stroke-like symptoms at 1am this morning. Very scary to see as he was staggering all over the place and disorientated. Anyone else had a dog with this? He's been put in meds and to go back in a week. Was so worried about him. He's my best pal in the world!

My cat had this and subsequently had 7 more! Each time he came back, a little wonkier but fine. The last one was the one that ended him. Our vets were fab and he lived 3 years after the first "stroke"
There is no cure, metacam will help and he may be left with a head tilt. Please check for ear mites as these are a recognised condition in many cases of vestibular
Big hugs for you and your dog xxx

My dog had a similar thing just before Christmas. My vet did not give a name to it but it sounds the same sort of thing.

My chap is 13 years old and we had been for our normal walk in the woods and then down the yard with the horses. I put him in the car and went down the village to pick up some Fish and Chips up to this point he was fine. when I got home he would not get out of the car so I had to lift him out. On putting him on the ground he was like a young chap that had had far too much to drink, all over the place. I thought he had had a stroke. I took the Fish and Chips into my Mum and then rang the vets. Jack had been sick too. By the time I got him to the vets he was able to slowly walk ,a bit wobbly, into the vets. his eyes were still a bit wondering and when he turned around in a circle he became unsteady again.

From start to getting him to the vets was no longer than an hour.

They kept him in over night and gave him fluids , pain relief and antibiotics. I was able to pick him up the following day. He was put on a weeks course of Steroids.

We still do not really know what the problem was but slowly over the next week he was back to normal.

I hope your dogs is alright now.

Hey K - don't panic yet. My old boy had a wee spell this spring. It was a really hot day and wondered if that had triggered the episode. But touch wood, he's had no spells since. We ran bloods after the epidsode and then a few weeks later and all appears to be okay. At the time of the episode we were given some Diazapam to administer. It's really scary and awful to watch, but they often come through well. In fact, Chester is still going strong and full of himself.
