Can these be traced? I want to get another goldie from the same lines as the current one. We didn't buy her from the breeders tho - we bought her from her owners when she was 6 months. I know her parents won't be alive anymore (Bear is 12) but I'm hoping they kept the line going

On a seperate note is it acceptable to ring a breeder and ask if they are giving their older dogs away/selling them cheaply? I mean exbreeders not puppies btw.

Many breeders will run puppies on to see if they are going to be the next winner, if they are not very often they will sell them on. I know as well that older dogs are sometimes sold after a litter. Don't be afraid to contact the breeder and see if they have any relations to your dog, its better doing it that way than having to contact loads of other people.

Wow, that's impressive! This is the foundation dog at Stella's breeder, and so I guess the one highlighted dates back to 1965 or so, but beyond that, I'm not sure. (BTs were only recognised in 1893, so I suppose that's not too bad.)

To the OP, you can ask a breeder about their retired dogs. Ex show dogs are often released at five years of age or so, and come with the benefit of being well socialised with other dogs and people, housebroken etc.

When I was a kid I had great fun doing a 10-generation pedigree for the cavalier I had - it went back to when cavaliers were first introduced as a recognised breed (around the early 1900's)

Even in those days (no internet then!) you could find lots of info from Kennel Gazette, the Kennel Club Stud Books etc - but they cost money - so I would just say google the show name of the dog and you should find loads of info

BTW as others have said, breeders quite often run on puppies which then dont make the grade for showing, or have brood bitches which they re-home in later life. If one breeder doesnt have anything they may well know of someone who does
