A recently deceased colleauges widow is struggling to cope, I have suggested her getting an older dog for company.
Somewhere in my mind I have this belief that a dog that doesn't shed is ok to live with Asthmatics, is this right?
If so how do I find her an older dog of a non shedding breed, everyone at work is concerned about this lady, very recently bereaved, won't entertain seeing a doctor.
Thanks in advance

I suffer with allergies n asthma
I took this into consideration when looking for my first dog
I got a whippet ( on my third now )
Ok ,they do shred but they are very clean and short fine coated so don't moult very much ( they hav one layer of coat )
Get in touch with scruples whippet rescue ,they may hav a older ones needing a home as they make great company n like lots of cuddles
Also they're not a big dog and would happily curl up on the sofa

Whippets are about 16-22 inch high
I think if u get a smaller dog most breeds will moult even cross with a poodle ,,not sure if there's other non shredding small breeds
Also will she be capable looking after a dog etc taking it out for walks
Would a cat b suitable although they do hav more fur which could set her asthma off

A dog would get her out and about and yes she could cope with a small dog,
I hadn't considered a whippet, I will mention it to her, although our neighbor has an old greyhound that lives outside and he moults something rotten when I stroke him, or do greyhounds have a different coat type to whippets.

If a dog is kennelled or live outside they are bound to grow a thicker cost hence why they will moult a little more ,whippets need company and most live indoors
Plz if u do consider a whippet get in touch with scruples altho they won't rehome until the new year and all foster dogs are kept at homes
Some ppl don't like these hounds because of the lightest of them but I'm biased but they're great dogs and thrive on love and attention ,an older one wont b so bouncy and will b happy to have gentle walks altho they do like to hav a a free run
Good luck

Whippets are lovely little dogs, and an older one would be idea with an older person, an 80 year old friend has one. He does love to run when she takes him to the park, but on days when she doesn't feel like it he his happy with just a quick potter in the garden and then spends the day curled up on the sofa with her. Alternatively what about a poodle, small and non moulting, although of course she would have to have one clipped/trimmed. Again an older dog would be best as they can be quite high energy as youngsters.

I'm also a pointy dog fan so would suggest thinking about a whippet. You could also look at something like Cavalier King Charles BUT they do require brushing and I understand some lines have health issues.

Poodles are good from the shedding and smallness point of view but they do need regular professional quality grooming and they a are quite smart and energetic. A friend of mine has two - she has been unwell recently and had to get a walker for them as they were driving her mad.

Whippets do shed but their hair is very fine and there isn't much of it. Plus, if they are fed properly, they don't smell.

Sorry to inject a note of gloom but please make sure, if you go ahead organising this, that she can afford a dog now. It's possible that may be the reason behind any reluctance.
