dogs and horses

recently aquired a greyhound bitch, 6 yrs old. shes a lovely friendly dog and very well behaved. i take my other dogs out on a hack sometimes and they find the pace of a horse easy to lope with. wondered if anyone had ever taken a greyhound out with horses and if they have enough stamina (built up over time obviously)?
 
I'll be very interested to hear comments you receive! We took on a 3 yr old lurcher bitch 3 months ago and she has been an absolute star, obedient (most of the time!) and stays with you on walks. She's pretty good around the horses but I keep mine on a large livery yard so she is on the lead most of the time there. I would love her to ride out with me around the fields but would also hate for something to happen. I'm probably just a pessimist! My partner and I are doing a lot of running training and have found this has really built up our lurcher's stamina. Before, she could run extremely fast for short bursts but could risk injuring herself and was generally pretty tired. Her appetite has also grown!
 
hi dont seem to be getting any comments, our greyhound has only been with us for a month and i have taken her out once with the horse, lucky for us we keep them at home. she loved the short run with the horse but i daren't take her further than that 10 mins til shes fitter. she loves being in the paddock with the horses though, behaving like a puppy at the moment, its so nice to see.
 
I wouldnt see a problem with it, my terriers come out riding with me all the time, if its a long ride it will just be a little tired after and have a bigger sleep lol thats wot mine do ;)
it will build up stamina for it, theres a GH trainer near us and they just have a walker which the dogs go on
Also my father in law has trail hounds (racing hounds) and he ties them to the quad and slowy drives round the forestry with them, just so the dogs are at a slow trot,
Im sure the dogs coming out riding will help them get fitter, with added benifits of not having to walk them miles ;)
 
hmmm i have been working on this since her first day when she dispatched one of my chickens! now she doesn't look at small things ( including the rabbit and the guinnea pigs) in her own territory, just need to extend it to the greater world! My terrier is mr perfect wheni am on foot but the little so&so disappears over the horizon if i take him out with the horse!
 
My Mum used to take her lurcher out miles and miles with the horse - along with a collie. I know they're a bit tougher than greyhounds maybe but he loved it and was more than fit enough.
