Sorry if this is a bit "out there" for all you non-bunny hugging horse and hounders! But:

Today there was a car crash at the end of our lane, possibly fatal, not sure. We didnt know anything about it until we went to riding, but it happened at about 12. We didn't hear it, there was no way Chloe could have, but she was acting strange after it must have happened - barking lots, stalking around outside, etc etc. Then, when we walked up the road to go ride, she was growling up the lane, trying to stop us walking up there.

There is no way she could have heard it, so do you think animals have a bit of a sixth sense about things?

I'm in a weird mood so please feel free to ignore if you think I'm loopy!

Yes, I think they definitely pick up on things that we can't, they are much more perceptive of emotions and 'vibes' too.

Plus the fact that they can track someone by smelling shoe leather/polish, stitching in shoes, crushed grass/bugs etc, hours old, never fails to blow my mind.

I definitely agree that some dogs (and horses actually) have an amazing perception beyond our recognition.

Out of interest what breed is Chloe?

I think they have for sure...years ago our family dog was bestest ever buddies with a neighbours old lab and the gate was always open between our gardens so they could play. Fred was old and eventually died but a while later our dog went into the garden in the night and sat in the middle of the lawn baying like a hound for ages. Our neighbours were upset the next day because they got up in the night thinking they heard Fred scratching on the dog flap to get in, forgetting that he had passed away, and that was the exact time that our dog was howling. We thought that was very spooky

I am sure they do, my Oh's dog always starts to get restless about 30mins bfore he comes in from work. He comes home at different times every day and works about 25 miles away. But I know when he has left and she is never wrong. i can actually put his dinner in the oven when she starts wandering around and she's right.

another of my dogs refused point blank to walk past a standing stone. She just stood and barked madly. I had to pick her up and carry her past it still trembling and barking. I found out later that there had been a really nasty attack carried out on a woman and her body was found near the stone. Quite freaky really - did Holly sense something there?

She was alright when she got to the spot, but Ive found out that it wasnt fatal so perhaps thats it.

Thats incredible about her knowing when your OH is coming home!!! xxxx
