Dogs can sniff out stress on owner's breath

I’ve noticed this week that my two have been much more fussy around my son in a morning, pushing into him for attention for example. The big dog has also been sleeping on his bed, which he sometimes does for a time but not usually for the entire night. I won’t go into detail as it’s with the school and police but my son was violently assaulted by two other pupils at school earlier this week and so is understandably very stressed and anxious ?

I could easily believe that. My boy can always tell when my anxiety is ramping up, and I’ve not taken my medication yet.

I read this yesterday, too.

"Olfactory neurons are present in the gut as well as the nose. Olfactory receptors were originally thought only to be in the sensory nerve cells (neurons) of nasal cavity tissues. However, research has shown that they are found throughout the body, especially in the gut. It now appears that olfactory neurons are substantially more functionally important than previously thought.

Findings like these help us to understand the connection between olfaction and other bodily functions."

I hope that things are resolved for your son ASAP Moobli, that sounds like a very stressful situation for your family.
