What on earth do they dream? Bertie dreams a lot. His feet will run and he makes little noises. Mr P alwys says to wake him as he's having a bad dream- For all we know though he's chasing rabbits without being told to "leave" or has managed to open the fridge all by himself.

Yesterday evening he was fast asleep and started almost yapping quite loudly and his legs were all going, Cecil (other dog) jumped up from where he was asleep ran over and licked his nose, quite a strange unusual reaction from him in itself, he usually ignores the others if they dream.

The way Bert woke up was even weirder though. He got up slowly, cowering low with all his hackles up, eye's really squinty and teeth showing, not in a nasty growl but really really submissive. I called him to me and he almost crawled over, wouldnt look at me. Honestly as if I'd just caught him eating my granny.

I'm always really interested in what's actually going on with them- Bad dream and woken too quickly do you think? What on earth is a bad dream for a dog?! I'd love to know.
It only took a few minutes before he seemed to realise where he was and that it was wee In the garden time and go back to his cheerful self.

Not long ago, one of our Labs appeared to be dreaming and was woken up by one of the others. She looked very confused, as if she couldn't understand how she had come to be lying on the settee, rather than wherever she was dreaming about. Mind you, she often looks confused!

All of my dogs have properly barked in their sleep, whined, puffed, moved legs as if running etc. Current female sleeps upside down with legs in the air and teeth stripped, sometimes with her eyes half open. Not disconcerting at all :p

I would definitely not wake a dreaming dog or expect/ask too much interaction from a dog that's just woken up, that's when a lot of people get bitten and wonder why. I'd bite someone who shook me awake, and I have an ex who learned never to try and wake me up :p

Yes I get angry if someone wakes me up! I don't wake him but do, I just realised absentmindedly put a hand on him, I think i do that often dreaming or not. He usually sleeping right next too me when I'm working, and I'll often be fliddling with an ear or just have hand on his head.
It was just strange that the other dog lept up and woke him.

My old lab would lie on his back galloping and whining 🤣

My retriever dreams every time he's asleep! We laugh because he makes far more noise in his sleep, than when he's awake. He barks, whines, growls (something he's never ever done awake!).
