I have a saddle fitting on Saturday and as long as it fits him okay I know which saddle I am after. The lady who is coming to fit him only has it in black but will order me one in.But I am desparate as muine is too small and since finding this out I am no longer riding him , so obviously keen to purchase asap.

To cut a long story short, just been up to local tack shop and they have the saddle in havana in the size that I think will fit him as a medium was a tad too tight so hoping MW will be ok .It was priced at £987 but the lad working says there's always a deal to be done.

What would say I should ask for, should I say a price first or ask them for their best price first, I'm useless at this and never ask for money off and wouldn't have even thought of doing so until it was said to me today.

Suggestions please.

Say that you've seen it cheaper online but you want to support local businesses so you really want to give them the business then ask what sort of deal they could do you. I'd probably be a bit cheeky aswell and ask for a few small bits to be thrown in aswel as the discount

Do an internet search for the cheapest price for that model then ask if they will match it. If you pay by cheque rather than credit card you will often get another 5% off as they have to pay fees on credit card sales. I am a seasoned haggler! If they wont drop price then ask to have girth / leathers thrown in. Good luck!

I have seen it on the net albeit on ebay but selling via a tack shop new havana for £775 +£ 6pp, obviously don't mind paying a bit more to get it from a trusted source .

I haven't asked about P/X I'll phone them later.

Super-Kat - I'll get my self in a tizz just asking for money off never mind asking for anything to be thrown in, But I need a new bridle as well so If i buy both from them then I'll try to be brave and ask for something.Guarantee if I don't my OH will be peeved as he always asks and 9 times out of 10 he gets.

i darent ask for discounts either, im a complete wuss.

my OH on the other hand, his first lone purchase from a tack shop was a saddle on which he got a 10% discount, also on anything else he bought that day...
