I've made the decision to rehome my ex-SJ pony, who I've posted about a fair bit on here! We've come to the conclusion that he really doesn't enjoy schooling, and I originally got him as an overcooked SJ pony to retrain for dressage or eventing, but he just isn't consistent and despite all the checks just gets so het up about cantering in the school, and certainly not going to jump again properly. He loves hacking and would be great for distance rides/sponsored rides and possibly Le trec or similar. I'm not in a rush to get rid of him so can afford to take time to find him a new home, but nor can I keep him indefinitely - he was bought as a project. He's also far too small for me so is exercised by my groom, and I'm not going to keep paying her to ride him.
I've had him for over a year and he's changed loads, really lovely to handle now and will go out on his own happily. Will canter and pop jumps out hacking. I am very fond of him, but at the moment he's one of many and I'd love him to go somewhere and be someone's friend.
I've listed him on Horses4Homes, and so far only had people enquiring about whether he would suit their 11yo daughter as a first pony..! Despite saying that I'd like him to go to an adult for hacking only. I listed him on Horsemart and had one great lady come to see him who was perfect but she changed her mind. Otherwise had the usual teenagers and people who say they'd like to go to shows etc and is he 100% all ways and does he come with a full wardrobe all for free. Maddening! If he was 100% all ways I would be selling him for thousands!
So just wondering if anyone can advise on places to advertise him (maybe specialist sites?!), and also whether I should be looking to loan/sell etc. At the moment H4H is for permanent rehoming, or have listed him on Horsemart as LWVTB. I've not advertised him as free to a good home for obvious reasons, and although I will lose lots of money on him I won't be giving away his tack and rugs - someone can either buy them from me or get there own. I don't want to just loan as I don't want to get him back at some random point in the future or when he's 30 or something..! I'd rather someone had him on trial and then took ownership for a nominal sum (or nothing) if all are happy.
I also didn't want to just list him for sale for £500 or similar, only to attract the wrong sort who either can't afford a horse or are a dealer etc. I would feel awful if he fell back into the cycle of dealers/showjumping having got him to a point now where he's a really happy chap.
Any constructive thoughts appreciated!
