I started doing an NVQ level 2 in horse care the same week i started working at a well known coffee chain.
After a couple of months I've been sacked as the three days a week I do the course mean I'm not available as much as they would have liked me to be.

I'm 19, have done A -Levels so don't qualify for an adult learning grant.
I tried to apply for Job Seeker's but apparently don't qualify as 3 days a week is full time education.

I live in a very small area and jobs are limited. Previously I had no other choice than to go onto JSA for 4 months. I need immediate finacial assistance from somewhere as I have 3 of my own horses and a car and I buy my own food and pay bills.

Does anyone have any ideas as to where I can go? Thanks.

Go to the citizens advice to find out your rights to benefits when on courses and stuff , also you could advertize privately for cleaning work and charge 10pound an hour , worth a try , private house cleaning is always a quick fix and you can do as many as you like and pick your times , put an ad in all local shops and areas you can drive to , seriously its a quick fix , and when you are more stable , you can move on . good luck xx

Sadly, I also had this problem. But then, if we didn't have horses then we could pay our other bills and why should the taxpayer be paying for our hobbie? I would suggest trying to find a horsey job where you could do college on day release or selling a horse/putting a horse on loan.

I second trying to advertise a home cleaning/ironing service that you could fit around your NVQ. I did NVQ 1 & 2 in Horse Care at evening classes at my local college.

If you are intitled to it you can clame EMA/ALG (Educational Manitence Alowence/Adult Learning Agreement as you are doing your NVQ full time. If you are intitled to the above you can also clame travel expensives from your local council.

In our area, there's a dearth of gardeners. Not much use in this weather but I know my neighbour's gardener is relocating to Somerset in a week or two, and another over the road hasn't had one for years because they can't find a reliable one (and they're short of a reliable cleaner too). So I'm sure there is work about.

I'd also approach the coffee chain's main competitor(s) locally as you're ready trained and offer the hours you can - never know they might just be a bit short / have someone leaving or just left at the time you ask.

Does your NVQ have to take up 3 days? I did my 2 and 3 on one evening and a sunday each week

My instructor told them I was full time

but as I work 45 hours per week and have 2 horses it wasnt possible.
