Hello,
New to the forum and have a mare that i would love to use stedinger with although i have heard many bad reports on his temparement which puts me off using him, i have always loved don primero and wondered if anyone knows if he still covering mares?

I'm not sure who you've heard bad things about Stedinger's temperament from. Both of the stedinger youngstock I've met have been fabulous temperament wise (as well as conformation, movement etc.) and my friend in the US who is a really well connected breeder has met loads of stedinger foals and older and has nothing but praise for them (though beware they can grow very tall, though mostly leg). Stedinger seems to pass on a temperament that is a little more wary than some offspring but if you handle them daily from birth and get them used to things they are fantastic. My boy is by Don Romantic but his best friend (when they were living together) was by Stedinger and has was amazing, a bit like a puppy. Hope this help. Feel free to PM me if you want to.

I have to say I did hear lots of less than stellar things about Stedinger's temperment in Germany this weekend. I did strike him off my own short list after seeing him in the flesh for a few reasons but I was being ultra picky. However I know a lot of people who are thrilled with their foals by him and I actually saw a granddaughter of his (by Status Quo) that I would have kidnapped had the owner not been standing next to me!

Don Primero is 23 so you'd probably be looking for frozen. What is it that you liked about Don primero as maybe one of his sons will give what you are looking for.

I have seen so many fabulous tempered, beautiful moving don primero offspring, the mare i am looking to put in foal has very correct comformation, but is sharp and flighty (hence me not wanting to use stedinger), she also could do with height and length in her foreleg, although i wasn't sure don primero would deliver this as he is only 16.1 according to his stud card?

I understand now why you don't want to use stedinger. Can I reccomend looking at Don Romantic. (Don schufro - Donnerhall). He is standing at Blue Hors and is a very nice stallion that seems to stamp his progeny quite strongly. I have a rising 2 year old colt by him and he is amazing, as are the other offspring that I've seen on the internet (he had at least 2 of his first crop licensed) to give an idea. He has passed on amazing movement and length of foreleg in my boy and my boy has an amazing temperament, though I'm not sure if this came from the mum or the dad. If you want any more info on my boy or his dad (incl photos) please feel free to PM me. Hope this helps

Yes sorry forgot to put in the original message about the mares temperament! As i have seen some fabulous stedinger offspring aswell but didn't want to risk the possibility of a nightmare youngster on my hands in a few years. Love Don Romantic, too many fabulous stallions around!

I agree though I would seriously look at Don Romantic as I think that he might suit quite well. Do you have a photo of your mare that you can PM me, I would love to have a look. Thanks

i don't really, only on my camera phone and i'm not sure how to get them on the computer? i'm not at all computer savvy i'm afraid
