Ive been reading the horror stories about the thousands of starving and dying horses in Egypt, its absolutly heart breaking.
I would like to make a donation, i cant afford allot but i think every little helps and these poor animals desperatly need help.
I know this sounds horrible but wouldnt it be kinder to put some of them out of their misery, they are getting enough food to last them two days from what ive read then are they back to square one again :-/ such a terrible death, starvation, the pictures are heart renching.
Anyway im sure the brooke are doing all they can to help, ive gone of track now :-Z
Right i want to make a donation and other half is paranoid about making one on line in case it isnt safe, has anyone else made a donation on line, was it safe?, i was thinking about giving them a call, what do you think??

You can give them a monthly donation. I do a direct debit each month - whatever you can afford. You don't notice it but it means a lot to the Brooke I know.

I give regularly too, only £10/month, but better than nothing and I don't really miss it. I also have a list of people who give me crazy things at birthday and Xmas and ask for a donation to the Brooke instead of presents - curiously, it is the present you remember!! So really worth doing for all parties.

Just wanted to make you aware of a smaller lesser known charity based in Luxor, called ACE.
Just google ACE in Egypt. Martin Clunes has just become a patron. I subscribe to ACE on a monthly basis too. They are based in Luxor, and I found them a few years ago, when I asked a carriage driver to take me to The Brooke, and he took me to ACE instead. I have visited their premises a number of times, and they do fantastic work, lesser known and they don't spend much money at all in advertising. I know for a fact that the locals prefer ACE in Luxor, than the Brooke - but obviously it is your money and your choice, but I can vouch for them and their work.

It is dire out in Egypt at the moment, they rely so much on tourism, no tourists, no cash, they live from day to day. They have no monies to feed their families at the moment, and the horses are subsequently dying. It is really tragic. I urge everyone to dig deep, the Egyptians are lovely people, and congratulations on overthrowing Mubarak. As a lover of Egypt, I have been glued to the television. You can make a one off donation to ACE, who are only based in Luxor, but I can guarantee you your money will go straight to the problem. The people who work out there are totally dedicated. Please, please make a donation, it WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Having looked at their website it seems ACE have shut temporarily due to the troubles and only have a skeleton staff working there atm so if you want to help the horses there at this particularly bad time then the Brooke is your best bet.

Realised after I had posted reply that currently ACE say they are closed. This was just when the demonstrations were ongoing, and they sent home their english volunteers. They still have 3 full time vets there dealing with cases, and Kim Taylor the founder is still working their too with ex-pats.

I am sure website will be updated shortly showing current position, but please don't think it is closed for business. I have been out in a restaurant at night, only to see these vets get up, leave their meal and return to the premises to deal with emergencies. They have an emergency fund ongoing to deal with the problems, and are arranging food out to the horses in the street. Please email Kim Taylor - link can be found on their site. Sorry I am not computer literate enough to cut and paste details in this reply. Like I say in Luxor ACE is far more prominent dealing with the problems, but it was an opportunity for me to bring awareness of ACE to Horse and Hound forum readers.

Whoever you choose, I ask you all to donate a few pounds. The more of us that do, we can make a difference. Once you have been out to these countries and visited either The Brooke or ACE, it is in your heart forever.
