Have just watched the You Tube footage after reading the article in H&H this morning about the donkey being killed by 'officials' using a digger.

DON'T VIEW - IT'S TRULY HORRIFIC and am now in tears and feel physically sick.

Hope those involved are severly punished for their cruelty and inhumane actions.

i did watch the video. and i was horrified i fail to find any reason y this was allowed to happen.
what the driver thought he was doing is beyond me.
to push it over is one thing but to then hit it and then crush it.
that poor donkey must have been terrified
im glad there was no sound i dread to think what it would have sounded like.
and worse of all i dont think it was actualy dead at the end it looked like it just had a broken neck
which just makes me want to do the same to the driver see if he is terrified .
and paralysed being able to do nothing except be in agony

I wish I hadn't read this thread. No way am I going to watch the footage. But why did they do it? Isn't anyone going to get prosecuted? I cannot believe this could be real?

Words fail me, I couldn't watch it I am truly sickened by it :( horrific doesn't cover it but I do hope all of those involved get what should be coming to them I don't know how they dare live with themselves!

They believed the donkey had rabies, caught from a dog. So the council sent the "man" with the digger to kill poor Donkey.

But they didnt check before hand if it did or not. Was there a foal on the floor?

Have to say it's one of the worst videos I've ever seen.

They authorities only seem to care about if it's going to effect local business.

I too am glad there's no sound.

I read the article, but have no desire to actually watch it. So sad.:( and distressing.

Trouble is, how do you discipline people in a country where even some people are treated like scum due to the caste system. I've been to india many times, and have never seen so many people sleeping at the side of the road at night. To them a donkey is nothing - I suppose it was like us stamping on a spider to them. Not condoneing it at all. Another thought I had is, would they have had a gun to kill it with? I guess normally they would just slit their throats. Did they actually think that they were doing the right thing?

I hope the donkey sanctuary manages to educate them and help future animals.

Absolutely disgusting!

I started to watch as seen it on h and h news but had to turn it off as couldnt bear to watch. Surely there was a more humane way to put it down if they thought it was sick?

I had a glimpse at the headline and it really upset me!! The poor donkey was just stood there watching on the photo before it happened. This is disgusting makes me feel sick !!!I cant even read about it im too upset

OMG!!!! After watching that, and seeing the photos of the horses in Eygpt, well I cannot wright what I think of these people, I would get well and truely banned!!!

ugh couldn't bear to watch more than 5 seconds of that, so bloody awful.
Can not stand seeing animals hurt and killed, humans on the other hand |:<

There is another thread running on this. My same question: Why put a link to the video? The article is gruesome enough without it. And why would it be video'd in the first place? Why would anybody want to watch it?
I read the article, that was enough for me.

This has made me feel sick. I'm normally am a strong person but can't bring myself to watch this cruelty. I hate people who have no respect for animals.

i can't bring myself to watch it either, just seeing the pic of the donkey at the start is upsetting especially as i know what will happen.
that poor donkey, i hope whoever did this gets the same treatment. disgusting and beyond cruel from what i've read.

It's horrific and heart wrenching no doubt about it. Was there a better way to dispatch him? Of course and I truly wish they had quickly used their brains to come up with a better plan.

I want you all to consider a few key points though. I have read many comments about this asking why the onlookers just stood back and did nothing and that it somehow made them sick bastards. Another one is why they simply did not just shoot the donkey.
If you read the article it tells you that there was a fear the donkey had rabies. If you watch the video the donkey is indeed acting very strangely and in a manner that would greatly concern me. Those who refuse to watch it may want to just watch the first few seconds to see what the donkeys behavior is like and tell me what you think.

It was loose within the public in what looks like a very populated area. I am aslo left to wonder if this is why they did not shoot it on site.
I am not sure if many of you are familiar with rabies and what exactly it does to people and animals but you would not catch me near an animal that had it. Especially not in a place where I may not have the best access to medical treatment to try and save my life. This may explain why the onlookers stayed back and did nothing and why none of the officials wanted to approach it to handle it to get it out of there. Maybe they did not have immediate( or any) access to a vet with a dart gun etc and had to act quickly to try and keep the public safe?

It was a disgusting manner that they chose and watching it ripped my heart out. I cannot tell you what they should have done instead as I was not there to know what other options that had readily available.

One thing I do know is that a better and faster choice should have been found but I am glad I was not in the position to have to find the right thing to do to keep the public safe from a potentially deadly animal..

Why on earth would anyone want to view the video, absolutely shocking to read, surely they could of been another way to dispose of the animal but without excusing the horific actions of the people involved, as someone else has mentioned, these people live in poor conditions and I can only imagine if it's the sort of place I'm thinking of, they perhaps didn't have any other way of disposing of the animal, or just don't think like we do, hopefully should this arise again if any good can come out of this is, is that they educate the folk on how to deal with it better next time, very sad indeed.

Why on earth would anyone want to view the video, QUOTE]

We all know media articles can be sensationalized ( a lot) so if you want to have a true opinion of it and have an opportunity to see the detials for yourself why not?

I respect some people do not have a stomach for it and it is a difficult to see. if it was a human child being harmed I could never have even considered opening it. If a person is able to watch it though it does not make them sick in any way or mean that they do not care for animals. Some of us just have different coping skills.
