Reggie came in today, and his donkey chum had to come in with him. All was well, until he had to cross the road...

This video is 100% worth watching, if only for the moment that Gerard (the donkey) is leaning so hard against Al he is making a 45 degree angle with the road :D

And, a quick question on how Fregga is looking to you esteemed lot:

He's had 3 months off doing absolutely naff all in a field.

And he's had all his hair taken off (legs and a circle on his back aside...) and stood like an angel to be clipped by me, despite the 3 dogs having a massive bust up under his feet and diggers and all sorts going on around him.

Al hacked him from the field, as he was turning himself inside out at the idea of saying goodbye to Gerard and he's more manageable from on top than on the ground. As soon as she was on board he turned from fire-breathing ex-racer to dope on a rope...

As a seasoned and now almost professional donkey wrestler I congratulate your helper on supreme patience and tenacity!:D

I have a few of the little darlings and they will NOT be told what to do, but will usually comply with bribery via a bucket of nosh or carrots literally held in front of their noses. Yes the old mythical joke really does work with them!

One in particular that was my old horse's best mate would act much as your little one is, we cured that by leading the horse out of sight immediately the little horror stuck his heels in, that usually set him off at a fast trot in the direction of his horsie chums disappearing bum! But for that to work he has to be as attached to the horse as the horse is to him.

Fregga is beautiful BTW.:)

We tried the carrots prior to the video. Trouble is, to catch him we'd had to use a lot of carrot-based bribery and we think he just wasn't fussed. We then took Reg away and he still was NOT crossing that rode. He was pretty much carried across!

And thank you :) He is my sister's pride and joy (she's the donkey pusher in the video :D)

There is a lot of love for the donkey in this family- helped by the fact that Reg is known as Donks as well (uncommonly large ears, bless him!).

Get your Donk a pressure halter. Do a wee bit of groundwork and teach him the pressure/release. Totally worked for ours and he will happily be led anywhere now :)

I think that sounds like a plan. He's pretty much unhandled, and a fairly solitary soul. He had a proper donkey chum until recently but she died and so he was acquired to keep various horses company. He generally just lives out and chills...

Another gratuitous Reggie photo, because he's too charming!

Ours was like that too. I bought him as a 3 year old but he was completely unhandled. He dragged my OH across the field - never laughed so much in my life LOL!! Anyway we got him a pressure halter and it totally changed him :) Reggie looks lovely! All self respecting ex racers should have their own Donk! :)

He had 2 little ponies to look after him, but they kept ganging up and stealing his food and not letting him eat his hay. They even chased him... He's so soft and sweet, he's pretty much a total pushover- he's 16.3hh, and they were 11.2hh and fat as butter but still ran rings round him, poor boy!

And that's brilliant- I was in charge of donkey dragging and we were getting on pretty well until it came to the crossing of the road. He also doesn't like puddles, but what sort of self respecting donkey wants muddy feet?!
