Doesn't it make you angry when you find a horse you've been looking for is sold, then you find its put back for sale at more money by the new buyer!!!

GRR this is what has happened to me, i have been looking for a horse for ages now and then i found 2 both half brothers for sale, i was umming and arming for 2 days then decided i would buy them both. One for me and the other for my boys to share, i later found they had been sold. so i though what a shame something else with come up, then to my amazement they were back up for sale with the new buyer in another county at nearly twice that!! I would have given those boys a home for life, im so disappointed! :(

If you were umming and ahhing it may mean that they weren't really the horses for you. However, if you think they are there is nothing stopping you going to see them and making an offer closer to the original asking price?

Do you know how long they have been with the new owner? Could be that new owner is a dealer or could have been a genuine sale that didn't work out (?)

they sold 2 weeks ago, then put up for sale a week later then sold in the last couple of days as the add said they were sold. Poor little mites they have had 3 homes now and there only 3 themselves.

That would make me cross too! It just goes to show that pricing horses is really hard. There are so many variables.

I've got one for sale and at first I just wanted people to make 'sensible offers' and included would be his custom made Albion jump saddle. I was hoping a good rider would come along and they would gel, as he isn't a novice ride, but he doesn't spook, he hacks alone in traffic fine, he jumps, he's competing at Novice Dressage, and he oozes presence. The silly offers I had for my horse and his tack were less than the saddle was worth!

I've now put him on at a reasonable price I think, and my feeling is, if people can't afford him at £3K then they probably can't afford to keep him over winter either, or they just want to rip me off and then they'll re-sell him at a huge profit, like the horses you have mentioned above, and in both of those scenarios he'd be better of staying with me! I'm only selling him as I have a new comp horse who I need to dedicate all my limited time to.

No, not really.

It is a shame that you were disappointed with regard to these particular ones though, did the seller know you were interested? As a seller I don't hold horses for someone who isn't interested enough to leave a deposit. Often, someone will say, yes we're really keen, and then vanish into thin air never to be heard of again, I just tell them that until I get a deposit the horse will still be on the market.

I buy and then sell on, sometimes quite quickly. I have even bought horses from the stockyards and resold them again without them even stepping into my trailer, and, on the other hand I have bought horses that have been sold in the ring in the parking lot at sales too.

I don't actually have a problem with horses being bought and sold, if they are what a person wants then they will get a decent home, if they aren't, then it is better for them that they are sold on to someone who will want them.

I do agree, and it has happened to me when I have dragged my toes, that it can be disappointing to find a horse you were interested in has been sold though. Plenty more pebbles on the beach though.

That happened to someone I know. Her mare was sold on selling livery - bought by the first person who viewed her and 2 weeks later was back up for sale (with a bull***** ad) for a grand more than they paid for her. The lass that put in the work and sold her for my mate was fumin.

Yes. I went to look at a horse in May and arranged to go back for a 2nd viewing. There was a mix-up with the seller and another member of the family sold her to someone else in between my visits. The seller I had dealt with was very apologetic, I was very cross, as I had arranged my visits at their convenience. The horse was cheap. I am now watching it's new advert very closely. It was advertised in August for 50% more than the original purchase price, even though the current seller admits in the ad that they are over-horsed. The price is now coming down and is now not a vast amount more than its original price. I'm waiting to see if it goes below the original price, although actually I'm probably not in the market now, as it would have been to ride while my own horse was off work and we are now coming back into work. I might take it off the current sellers hands though if I can get it for next to nothing, lol!
