ted has just turned three and since we have had him (bought him august last year) we have wondered about what colour he is now and what colour he will go? we deal with welsh cobs so we have never had a grey(ish) sort of horses lol :).... on his passport it says he was liver chestnut with a star :S now he is a greyish colour with a tint of red in it and has a stripe :S.... also ive noticed these little white marks coming up on him, i dont know if anybody else has horses that has these? i havnt noticed them getting bigger but i have noticed more developing. so here are some photos of him.

so what are your thoughts?? :)

I think your boy is going to turn fully grey. When they start out chestnut they can go through this odd colour change on the way. Also some grey horses do get white marks like yours. Many years ago there was a racehorse called The Tetrarch who had lots and they called him The Spotted Wonder.

Yes I think you have a grey coming along there :p

My mare was rose grey when I bought her at 4, she is now a fully fledged dapple at 9 with chestnut flea bites in the lighter places.

I believe a roan has to have a solid head, with no flecking at all. Although normal face markings are allowed. As a result roans often have a dark head and knees down compared to the rest of the colour.

If I was describing him I would say rose grey with spotting :)

If they had been dark spots (I don't know if white ones are called the same) then they would have been Bend-Or spots.

Your horse is identical in colouring to mine!
Mine is full ID and he will gradually go grey. He is 4 now but he gets fractionally more white through his coat every year. :)

I am particularly interested in the white markings as I've just started loaning an 11yo Swedish WB and he has them...

He too has a little love heart, on his back leg, and I swear it's not a clip mark!!
