i have a 14.2hh new forest x, who is 11 years young! and i need to sell him as i want something slightly bigger. he is lovely to ride, hacks out alone in comapny, done xc, sj hunted sponsered rides, but he needs to be lead in out of field in a chifney as he runs off in a head collar.
he really cutie but obviously to much for a smaller child. I am struggling to find a home for him, anyone know what i can do and how much i should sell him for or part ex????

Whereabouts are you?

Have you ever had him schooled for this problem by a pro? If it is as bad as that, it would seriously knock down his price and desirability. Does he do it with everyone? My son's 13.2 was sold to us as having to be led in a bridle for a similar reason, but he only tired it once with us, didn't win, and now happily slops along beside us on the end of a leadrope. Our old 12h pony used to drag fully grown women around, yet walked calmly next to my 10yr old step son... Often they just know who they can do it with.

If you can sort the problem you could get £2-3k, but if not I'd only pay £1k as a 14.2 is mainly aimed at younger teenagers.

im in buckinghamshire.
I had a guy mark smith who deals in horse behavioural problems and he said repitition in the chifney. and he was runnign cause he looked like he had been frightened in he past and why he was running away. Which i have been doing for months!. but still dont feel like he isready yet. Although i can lead him in end of the rope in it!

Many small adults are now riding 14.2 ponies so If he is a bit quirky on the ground this may not put them off. He would ,if good in every other way, still be saleable IMO.I would put it in the ad that he needs a firm hand when being led and all of his GOOD points should outweigh one problem.
No pony is perfect :D and the right person should be able to handle this,
Good luck finding him the right home.

TBH this wouldnt put me off! He sounds like the sort of pony that would be right for my daughter and since we got out own little yard we have become slightly lazy in that we tend to untack on the yard and they wander loose while i get feeds etc then put themselves out!

Its facilities and the way people do things. Yes its not ideal by any means but i wouldnt say its the end of the world either for a nice to ride pony!

If he is really easy to lead in a chiffney it might not be a problem.

A friend has an ex RDA cob who is very quiet and easy in every way except he has to be lead in a chiffney otherwise tries to run off to get grass. She has had various sharers over the years who have learnt to ride on him including children and it has never been a problem.

I jump my 14.1 affiliated. Lots of little adults ride ponies. Personally however great he is once in I wouldn't pay more than 600 in current climate for something that needs that kind of get up to bring it in. I'd pay nearer value for ability if it can come in in a bridle. I'd work on it before selling.
