I let YOs daughter give her boyfriend a lesson on saturday on Mae. After seeing him riding her i just dont want him to ride her again! He was pulling her mouth and i told her that was one thing shes not to let happen. Also didnt realise that hes 6ft3 and shes only 14.1hh.

I dont know why ive got so much against him riding her again as he enjoyed it and i feel rotten for not wanting him to ride again! Thing is YO and my friend are learning to ride on her, to me she didnt enjoy him on her, she played up and he shouted at her, but still its not enough for me to say, no you cant use her again!!

Heres some pics of him on her

not really dressed for a lesson bless him is he?

as she is wearing a martingale, why didnt the person who was teaching get him to hook a finger under the neck strap?
or give him a leader until he was a little more balanced?

hardly his fault if he was just left to get on with things...

I wouldn't want him on her in trainers for a start!

Mae is your horse and if you didn't like him on her, that's fine. It's totally up to you. Just say you felt he's too big for her and would better riding something a little bigger.

I know how you feel, and at the end of the day its your horse so if you dont want him riding her then you just have to say. My horse was on loan to college and had some right numpties riding him, I used to cringe sometimes when I was watching. But then he was also used a lot for disabled students and last year was teaching kids to ride. Seeing how he helped them not only improve their riding but also just the sheer joy they got out of riding him made me really proud.

I offered to lead her, but she said that he was fine. She started napping at the gate again and he didnt know what to do so screamed.

I wanted to put a spare stirrup leather around her neck but she said no. It was his first ever time on a horse, tbh i couldnt watch. I dont know why i hated it so much. Shes had 2 other beginners on her and i felt fine about it. I just couldnt handle him being on her!!

YOs daughter is at college and part of her assignment is to give a lesson to a beginner. I kept showing pics to others and asking does Mae look happy, but i think its just me looking for an excuse!

OK I am going to be harsh now...

YOUR horse, YOUR rules. NO ONE should be riding your horse unless you are happy, fullstop. YOs daughter is going to fail her course anyway because she has allowed someone to ride a horse with ridiculously dangerous footwear on and without making any of the usual beginner lessons paramount to her teaching.

Get some bollox girl and say NO MORE!

Thank you Weezy, you gave me the kick i need. Apart from his height there is something else that is just making me hate him riding her! Lol i honestly thought that i was just being a spoilt b***h, but something was nagging at me.

He was on Mae when i arrived, i already said the day before that he could ride her. Was a tad annoyed that he was wearing my hat too, especially my new one. Wouldnt have cared if it was the older one.

I just feel bad as i know what it was like when i first started riding, no horse to ride etc.

Just got a text from her asking if she can use Mae for him tomorrow. I sent a message back saying that i think he needs a bigger horse as Mae is too small.

I agree with Weezy. Don't let her use her again.
I'd be very, VERY annoyed if
a) He looked like Hagrid riding a shetland (no offence to Mae)
b) He was dressed like Rambo meets Miami Vice
c) GF declined to put a stirrup leather around her neck

WTF is THAT all about
d) Was wearing MY HAT

e) He squealed like a girl when Mae behaved like a living breathing creature rather than an inanimate object.
f) He shouted at her?! OMG!!

I admire your restraint. I'd've had some very strong words to say and then beaten them both up with a poop scoop!
Don't let them use her again!

100% agree with this!! He should be dressed approprately and also learning on a horse more appropriately sized for him. Its your horse so just say no!!

Well ive told her not to use mae tomorrow, if i go up and shes been used then i will not be a happy girl and a few strong words will be said (putting it nicely).

Yeah was my new hat, a nice new harry hall that cost me £89, ive older hats in there (2 infact) but would have had to go into my box to get that hat!

Shes not replied to my text messages so im sure shes in a huff!

Cobland - you need to be very forceful if you think they may take your horse to ride even if you have said no. Neither YOU, nor YOUR HORSE, nor THE RIDER would have any come-back on an insurance claim if anything happened. Also, the Yard Owner would be liable under the new Animal Welfare legislation. Back 'em off now!!!

I take it you PAY the YO to stable your Pony there, well apart from the fact it's your animal and have every right to say who and who doesn't ride it, you are also a paying customer/client, for some strange reason in the horsey world this seems to be forgotten, stick to what you know is right for the Pony, he is obviously too big looking at the photo.

I would say he looks too big for her and it might be better that he rides something more for him....
I had this problem once before and its a hard one to get out of...Just say you are not about when they ask to use her or say that you think he is too big for her....
good luck with it...

As the others have said, YOUR HORSE. He's too big for her, he's hanging onto her mouth, he's using your stuff without permission, and he's screaming at her.
So what happens if he has a fright, falls off, and hits her because of his ineptitude? Or accuses you of having a dangerous horse. Or, worst case scenario, panics her so she takes fright and gets injured?? You said she was already napping with him.
Truly, it's a disaster waiting to happen.
Also, if someone walked into your house and borrowed a new pair of shoes, would you feel that was acceptable?

Get them told, girl!! Be brave!

He looks too big and its your horse!!!!!!!!!! it could spoil Mae also if he can't ride and he is pulling on her not givivng the correct aids etc. She obviously didn't like it!!!

How out of order to ignore your view about neck strap etc. Not on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for your hat!!! Well, How rude.

i struggle when anyone rides my wiz, as he is such a sensitive soul. It is rare though and i have to be sure they are ok.

I know how difficult it is to tell someone that they can't continue riding your horse, but it is YOUR horse. Although I can't see the pictures, it sounds as though your horse isn't happy and neither are you. If the boyfriend really want to learn to ride, why shouldn't he go and have lessons as a riding school. Most other people have to, and without people learning at riding schools, they will soon all disappear! At least then he will have a decent instructor and a horse that suits him!
