Don't you sometimes think "it's my turn for a sound horse now"?

After 7 months of ongoing problems, that are still unresolved and will remain that way, don't you just sometimes think "it's my turn now"?

I was so so careful with her, I don't jump more than once a week, twice very occasionally, I didn't trot her on the roads for long periods, I didn't razz everywhere, I didn't pound her on hard surfaces, I didn't push her above her height limit jumping- hell i did 3 shows with her!!

Gotta say, my friend has been out competing every week, has a horse that will do anything she wants and is easy in every respect....and I am so friggin jelous. I don't think she gets how lucky she is.

I know there are others in similar situs, so hugs to you (and I know there are others far worse off, but I need to rant).

Life's a bitch. When is it my turn to actually enjoy horses?

Sorry for moany post

I haven't had a truly sound one since selling my first pony 17 years ago, up to buying my grey horse last year.

Be patient, and when you are able to look for another, choose very, very carefully then keep your fingers crossed.

Also in this situation

so *hugs* all round and here's to hoping that november will be the month they all come sound

Oh it's crap isn't it. I spent 15 years looking after an elderly intermittently unsound mare then bought a youngster to bring on who was PTS by the age of 8 with unresolvable lameness problems.

How crap is that.

My mare at the moment is fine, but I am very aware that this could change in a heartbeat.

That's just horses I suppose

Makes you wonder if it's actually worth it though doesn't it? All that time, money and effort we pour into them, and this year I really haven't got anything back, just heartache!!! To make matters worse I'm just too big for her, just to add to the joys!!

trust me i knwo how you feel ive lost 3 in the last 18months
pnutz feb - uveitis, orin june- pus in his lungs and rolex allergies and ibd. buffy has been lame for the past 5 months and just gone sound and she is 5yo!! just bought a foal so im prayinghe doesnt break!

sometimes i feel like giving up!

so know what you mean

don't worry, you aren't alone.

But honestly, I don't think any horse is ever 100% sound. Think most owners would be suprised what they found if their horse had a full MOT... just like no person is truely sound really

Don't worry, our day shall come! I got to ride my horse 4 times this week! can't remember the last time i got to ride him that much between going lame, getting a cut, loosing a shoe, it raining, anythign!!!!

Yup same position here. My old mare went lame in June with ringbone and her companion is LOU. So only hacked out in walk twice since June (vet told me to).

She has had a course of cartrophen and the vet is back on the 17th November to assess if there has been any improvement (keep your fingers crossed for me please!).

So other than 2 walks the only other time I have ridden since June was when I went to try a horse about 5 weeks ago and got fired off it unceremoniously and broke my hand

Friends have offered me rides but its not the same as having your own.

Even if old mare is still unsound I am going to wait til after the new year to look for another I think.

Perhaps we should start a clique - the 'I've got a horse and nothing to ride clique'

oh babe it sucks doesn't it? Last year I had both my two out of work for about 3/4 months and it was a nightmare.

One reason why I went out and brought a cob/pony......

Its comforting to know im not the only one in this situation

Taff has been retired 2 year bt i can accept that as its down to old age.
Robbie has been off for 8 months and is now retired, hes only young and like you guys i was always careful with him
frown.gif

Bob had about a month of this year aswell
I also got to ride a horse for somebody who has been on and off lame since april aswell,
and to add insult to injury i was "lame" for 6 weeks and still not 100%
At one point me and all my horses were lame! twasnt fun !

Yep it sucks. I feel more like a horse retirement home than anything else half the time. Its only a theory, but I think the older two just lean over the fence and 'whisper' 'just limp a bit and you can join us on this side of the fence'.

Hey hoe, at least the vet gets to drive a nice big new discovery funded by my woes?!

Also have 3 unridable, one old (26) and retired, one only 13 months old and the 11yo has been intermittently lame for 3 years and is now also retired

Lost one previously to that PTS aged 8 with collateral ligament rupture
