15.3h mare professionally show jumped as 5yr old

12 years old,won at hickstead as 5yr old, have dvd, safe and bombproof, only reason for sale is current owner not confident enough as mare loves to be worked, the more the better, loves jumping would love to go hunting, also done fun rides, very soft mouth(snaffle)good brakes, does tend to be mareish on occassions.would consider exchange for bombproof middleweight e.g sec d ,doesnt have to be a superstar, just happy to plod along or have a good canter,no timewasters and no joyriders. £2800.

sounds to good to be true but at 12 maybe the owner thinks the price about right
Maybe she is overhorsed and looking for a quick sale

probably not - from this advert I would read between the lines to take that the mare is probably quite a handful - even if she does have good brakes. If the mare is a bit of a nut job then probably reasonably priced - just from the text of this ad.

for them to ask for a cob in exchange ,doesnt that sound a bit weird, it sounds like the other is a bit wild shell we put it.

There is more to Hickstead than the main ring. She might have won a class in the back ring and classes there start at 1.10. She's quite small as well.

No, I don't think it's too cheap at all.

Reading between the lines, it sounds quite sharp, and if it's sharp at 12 years old, I can't see it ever calming down much.
Also, it may have won at Hickstead as a 5 year old, but you don't know which class it won, and what it been doing for the last 7 years.

You can't price a horse based on what it's done in the past - it has to be a reflection of it's current value, and there is no mention of any recent competition record, and most horses are suited to fun rides and hunting, so nothing special there...

It is one of those cases where you would have to ask the seller more questions and see the horse for yourself, but based on the ad, I would be reluctant to even pay the asking price for her.

TBH the mare doesnt sound exceptional - when they say she has 'won at Hickstead', it could be anything; they hold ordinary Discovery/Newcomers etc classes there, so as the ad does not say 'won Winter Novice' or 'won 5 yr old class', I would assume that the Hickstead win was not a big one! Plus there must be some kind of reason she was only SJed 'professionally' as a 5 year old....if she was that good, whoever SJed her would either have taken her further or sold her to another SJ home! So I would say she probably has scope/speed/attitude issues. So, bearing in mind she doesnt seem to have done much, and the ad does not give any breeding details, and she is being sold as a 'fun ride/hunter' as opposed to an SJer, I would say the price sounds about right.
