Massaging is good because it will encourage the blood flow... have you got your horse in or out? The swelling will probably take longer to go down if you keep him in, but if he's out and walking about then it should go down quicker... If he's not lame on it, he could be ridden lighlty, and always hose the knee down for 10mins after you've ridden, you could also do this in the morning/evening too.... If it goes on for much longer, i would seek the advise of a vet.

Don't worry about it being in the wrong place - people will still see it!

massage on swelling's or injury's is a contraindication and may actually cause more damage, so I would not massage the area at all, gently putting on a lotion that will help bring down swelling is ok, but no actual massaging it into the skin ect, it would be better to cold hose it and turn him out for mobility.
regards
Dawn

i have been hosing leg each day after being rode and coming in from field etc. he is now turned out as he had to have quarantine as new horse, but dont get me wrong he isnt turned out with all the other horses we have a 2 acre field for horses that just want a couple of hours than the whole day with a nice horse so hes not alone. but i keep him out for as long as poss. i dont want him with the mad horses in our big fields as he will get kicked as i said he is new.

it has gone down a lot i was just wondering if i could help anyother way. but seems like im doing all i can really. i will give the vet a ring and see what he suggests

the thing is, because it's in a joint, it will stay puffy for ages, and also with the movement...my sister's horse was kicked back in March, and because of where it was, it took almost 4months to heal...plus i think he's a slow healer anyhoo (like me!!).. he had a wound on his chest that took forever to heal too..

i'd say you're doing everything right, and just about everything you can be doing... What kind of horse is he? height? colour? what do you paln for him? sorry, I'm a tad nosy!!

its alright i dont mind. hes 16.2 dark bay idxtb fantastic jumper. he would also be fantastic for showing/dressage as moves really well.
he needs a bit of weight on him as was just thrown in a field and left, but i am going to get him all up to weight, and join my local riding club, get on the senior showjumping teams and take it from there really. i will do showing with him aswel as he is a good mover and maybe dressage.

as my instructor tells me is is very elegant in his paces he is nice to watch, he makes you stop and look at him,

i love welshes, i would of had one but would have been too small for me. i have noticed tho a few section d horses for sale at 16hands + but surely they wouldnt be true to type as they arent that big are they?? let me know how you get on with your dressage, i am a big fan of dressage, i never ever thought i would like it

but after having to do it for an assesment at college i loved it, defo be doing that.

my god yeah i need to get fit aswel rather than the horsey, i had a lesson the other day and i was nearly sweatin buckets, i am so unfit, but saying that whenever i do a test or show i get really hot even if it is winter, i go beetroot lol looks fun on pictures. at first i used to hold my breath when doing a show.

Sorry, I was talking medically fit!!! I am having major surgery in less than 7 weeks...(old riding accident!!) next year when i hope to be able to ride with out pain, I'm going to do all these things!!!

I believe you can get big Sect D's...up to around 16hands but no bigger than that, sister's horse is 15.2hh.... i don't realy know about breeds and breeding!!! leave that to the experts!! LOL!!

Dressage can be fun....

Remember to breathe when you are riding!!!
