I have qualified and going to the Trailblazers finals, the first elementray test is E50 - requires collected, working and medium canter. My horse is a welsh cob and his canter is his weakest pace. Hoever his roundness and collection in the canter is far superior in the double as oppossed to the snaffle. I know at elementary level you can wear a double, but what do you think the judges will think? Do you think they would prefer to see a snaffle than a double? Any people experiences/thoughts on this topic would be much appreciated.

It shouldnt make any difference really - as you legally can wear a snaffle bridle or a double. but I suppose it really comes down to what the individual judge would prefer, but they shouldnt mark you down for using a double. If he goes better in the double - then I would use that.

You are allowed a double at elementary, and if your horse accepts the bridle, stretches into the hand without tucking behind the contact and is happy in the mouth there is no reason at all why you should not use it.

Hi i ride in a double bridle at elementary and i dont think the judges should show preference either way - if the rules allow it - some horses respond better and some dont so i would do what you think is best. And good luck with the finals by the way!

Thanks for your prompt replies, he does go nice in his snaffle, it's just the canter that is alot better in the double and that elementary test has alot of marks for canter. Never competed him in the double before, so we will prob go to a competition beofre the finals as a bit of a practise.

Al;though doubles ar allowed check the rules incase they have restrictions on the length of shank on the weymouth....I know Riding Clubs National Champs do.
