Well hopefully next spring I want to be able to go showing and the classes I want to do apparently I may need a double bridle/pelham.

I have tried her in a pelham and she HATED it. Will I have much luck with a double bridle?

And now do I go about selecting the right bits for my horse?

She is quite strong in a snaffle anyway and I will be looking to compete at Elementary come spring (the mare has points, I have no choice!!! :D) and you can compete in a double at Elementary.

So if I find a double she is comfortable in, I could use it for both discaplines.

Opinions welcome :D

Go for it, generally if you ask people on here they will go on about how you should almost never use a double...

I use a double and the sky hasn't fallen in....

What type of bit do you ride her in normally?

I prefer loose ring bridoons, so if your horse is normally in a single joint snaffle, I would try a single joint bridoon; if she prefers a double joint/french link type snaffle then try a double joint bridoon.

I generally prefer a ported sliding cheek weymouth but it's really down to choice.

With the double you will be (hopefully) using primarily the snaffle rein so she should take to it better than with a pelham where you always have some degree of curb action.

:)

Thanks guys - will post this in CR :)

Rhino - Yes I have ridden in double reins before so I know how to use them. However, I have never had to choose double bridle bits! She likes her NS verbindend and she goes best in that, so a loosering frenchlink type bradoon?
