Just a quick question?

When fitting a double bridle, does the badoon (or however it is spelt) sit under the curb??

thanks
Steph, x

Ye sorry I mean in there mouth, a friend has set it all up for me and fitted it to the same size as her snaffle bridle, but I wasnt sure if when it goes in her mouth if the badoon goes under the curb?? if that makes any sence?? x

No the bradoon sits infront of the weymouth i.e goes in her mouth first. Sorry if that doesn't make sense I'm not very good at explaining things!
If you go into the picture gallery worried1 put a picture of Diva in her double so you could have a look.

ye ive got it in her mouth first then the curb but say you had a look in her mouth, what should you see?? the pointy bit of the badoon under the curb or above??

I may be wrong but if it fits her correctly when there is no contact on the rein (or even when there is a light contact) it should all be level.
What sort of weymouth do you have? Does it have a port?

The bradoon fits 'comfortably' high in the mouth and the curb fits directly below. If looking in the mouth then the Bradoon is technically slightly behind the curb but as I said, it sits higher than the curb. I must point out that a double bridle should only be used by an experienced rider on a well muscled, well ballanced and schooled horse. They are not designed for youngsters or to help a horse into an outline, nor should they be used to achieve a false impression that the horse is on the bit. It is purely used in the final stages for fine tuning of the jaw & head positioning. If they are used by novice riders it will be an unpleasant experience for the horse and can create resistance to any other bits used in the future. Hope this helps.

Ok thats for all the coments that makes sense now, I am a well experienced rider and me and my horse are progressing to the next level with our schooling but I am having lessons as I personally have never use a double bridle before, so want to make sure I use it correctly.

i know what you mean, the joint in the bradoon should be below the weymouth, although it sounds like you may need your bradoon (snaffle) up a hole. don't have your weymouth tight let it comfortably hang but not so it touches any teeth, and i would use an elastic curb chain when you can.
