As some of you may be aware my mare has some balancing issues in the trailer.

Well it has come to light that it is not a space issue, but rather a weight distribution problem. We found this last weekend when we went somewhere with a friend. My mare had the best journey that she has ever had in months. Bends and adverse cambers were, for the first time, a non-event.

Now I have a "problem". I can't always go places with other people. So how do I weight down the other side of the trailer?

One thought is that I put some straw bales in the empty side would this be feasble? and how many would do the job?

how about travelling her without partitions?! then she could stand in the middle diagonally - thats the only way my mare travells... may work?

if not how about a couple of containers of water?! that should weight it down a bit and would be useful too :)

or maybe ask a friendly farmer/scrappy for a couple of tractor weights ;)

I am afraid that taking partitions out is not an option due to the fact that we do share trailer journeys, and once the partition is out, it will never be able to go back in. I was in this senario with my old gelding.

Tractor weights.... now there is a thought.

Just showing my ignorance here about Ifors (yours is an Ifor isn't it Angua2?). But did they really manufacture them with non-removeable partitions?

If it wasn't for that, I too would suggest travelling her on her own (I appreciate that you wouldn't be able to take you're friend's horse) without the partition (would also need a single breast bar), cross-tied, so that she could position herself however she felt comfortable. I always travel mine that way - they travel well, and even Miri the non-loader is loading okay now. (And the trailer partition remains gathering dust in one of the stables).

Faro, it is removable but this mare is so bloody minded that she will travel nicely with a companion, but not without - so I will not take the partition out as she has proved that it is not a space issue or travelling persay. If it were the same senario that I had with Sid's then I wouldn't hesitate.
