Hubby and I went to a local dog show yesterday. It was a fun affair - lots of lovely dogs enjoying themselves in the sunshine.

We entered a few classes and did rather well!

Katy won Best Small Pedigree, Best Terrier and Best in Show (which was chosen from all the 1st place dogs from all the classes - about 20 in all.) Dougal won Best Rescue Dog.

The rosette haul. Katy's Best in Show rosette is huge! (About 7 inches across)

The Best in Show prize also included a brush, a frisbee, a voucher for a free grooming session and 2 x 15kg bags of dog food from the sponsors of the show Skinners and Arden Grange. That amount of food will last our two about 6 months I reckon so Katy is earning her keep already! :)

Each class win also came other little prizes, so we have 3 frisbees and 4 new brushes! Ours don't really chase frisbees and we have the brushes they need so I'm going to give these to our local dog rescue.

Well done, great looking dogs, thats an impressive haul of ribbons you have there.

Im really impressed at your dogs paying for their keep that has to be a first.:D

Wow! :D Seriously impressed! ;):D

Bear The Border sends his congratulations, too, although he is rather ashamed to admit that he's waaaaaay to bolshy for the showring and would show his hoomins up no end!:D

Aw, Bear! There were a few dogs showing up their hoomans on Sunday! None of them BTs I'm glad to report.

I confess I had a bit of an unfair advantage with Katy. Although we got her purely to be a pet, her previous owner bought her to show and breed from. The lady has been a top breeder for about 40 years, and has shown and judged everywhere including Crufts. So I knew she had chosen a good dog in Katy. She never actually showed her due to her (the owner's) ill health but she did start training her in ring craft.

On normal walks Katy can be a bit of a loon on the lead and is very excitable. But once in the show ring she just rose to the occasion, trotted out like a champ and stood showing herself off beautifully. She's definitely a natural. :D
