Has anyone done one of the intensive courses there on their schoolmasters? I'm looking into it as I've barely ridden in 3 years, and although I can get on and manage I feel so insecure and useless. Did you find you learnt/improved a lot in the few days? I'm just worried it will be a bit much to cope with fitness wise, but not sure what I can really do about that.

I'm also really interested in replies to this thread as have been considering going there for some schoolmaster lessons (I emailed Dovecote a while ago but didn't get a response).

OP - btw you might find you get more responses in the CR forum as I think someone in there has been before (I think that's how I heard about it).

Oh that's strange I emailed last night and got a reply early this morning, your e-mail must've got lost. They said they recommend 2 lessons a day if you're doing it in an intensive clinic type way, but I think I'll have trouble walking after the first, eek. I just really want to improve my seat and it would have to be only 2 or 3 days as its around 3 hours from me and I'd need to stay over etc.

Ah I'll drop them another email then as I contacted them weeks ago but never got a reply! Hope some other people reply to your original post that have actually been and can provide feedback.

Dovecote in Worcestershire? If so then I can highly recommend Sam as an instructor. He will be sure to tailor your lessons to what you can cope with physically and mentally and you absolutely WILL come away having learnt loads! He is a demon lunge master BTW, so expect to be drilled hard!

This is what worries me, I think my muscles will just die, I won't be able to walk to the car let alone drive! I currently ride mine about 3 or 4 times a week for about 15mins mostly in walk. I just feel like I've lost my seat, so insecure. Do you think its a good idea even at my terrible level of riding fitness?

I had some schoolmaster lessons abroad, only 45 mins per day, having not ridden for a while. After day 1 I could barely walk, and from day 3 they took pity on me and found me a seat saver. I think I would have got a lot more out of it if I had been a bit more "riding fit" beforehand (my general level of fitness was pretty good, it was just my riding muscles that weren't).

Could you maybe have a couple of lessons a week at a "normal" riding school for a few weeks beforehand?

I've actually got two horses of my own just coming back into work, I just feel really insecure, only riding them about 3 times a week for 20mins or so and mainly doing groundwork. I'm going to give them a call and try to up my riding at home a bit just to build some fitness up.
