...with a bloody big bump!!

I fell off last night and I am so angry with myself. It was so stupid. I haven't jumped since AH lesson about a month ago and before that, not much over the winter. Realised that with our cross country training on Sunday, I had better pop over one or 2 before hand.

Well, I put up a couple of plain fences, mistake no' 1, lazy arse, I should have put out the barrels and fillers, we aren't going to be jumping sj poles on sunday!
I put up 2 fences, one at 3 foot, happy comfort zone. and 1 slightly bigger (the wings aren't marked, but I thought about 3'3 or so.

Anyhow, pop the wee one a couple of times, all fine. Go for the big one and he comes in deep and pings, a bit unseated, but I decide he's coming in a bit half hearted and crank up the canter, pings it beautifully, but it felt big.

Ok last time for finishing. and what happens. He bowls on in, its a good forward bouncy canter, but i miss the stride, pony brain takes over, puts is a wee one and takes off from the bottom of the wings, catapults me into orbit and after the jump as I'm trying to regain my seat I feel him coil, you know the feeling, so I let go. BUMP ow. Flippingheck - he cleared the jump though - god knows how.

So after I retrieved b from the hay barn, (he glanced at me on the floor and calmly trotted out of the school and into the hayshed

my friend comes in and as she's taking the fence down to a bit smaller, just till my legs stop shaking, she says flipping eck fi. that's huge. turns out my second fence was nearer 3'6". what was i thinking jumping that cold!. god dam it took so much work last summer building b & mine confidence and getting over the fear of heights. why was I jumping big jumps when the training isn't going to be big, I should have been practising over little fillers and wotnot.

I am so moofed with myself. I am lame today, tweaked my knee and hip and my confidence is back in my boots, it seems my wonderful new jumping saddle has lost it's sticky powers. I just hope b isn't traumatised (he didn't seem to be). He's only 14.3 so needs practice and muscle to jump bigger, which he has neither. I'm not good enough as seeing a stride to jump that big. I'm now irationally dreading the xc training, esp as I have borrowed a bp as my new one hasn't arrived yet and I'm worried I end up in the water as it looks brand new. Water and ditches are the reason we are going training.

Oh dear, not good but we've all been there! Why don't you enlist the help of your friend tonight and build a nice little grid of jumps no bigger than 2'6" for you to pop down a few times - this should help you feel more confident for saturday and remind you that jumping is fun and not scary.

I think that will have to be the plan. My knee is feeling better, now but my shoulder and neck are stiffening up. I'll just stick to totty ones tonight!.

Cheers.
