Well, my mum's horse Chloe went off to her new home at a local riding school yesterday. She got a new set of shoes on Saturday, and I was all set to take her a nice hack for a final time, but the wind and rain conspired against me. So my last ride was schooling during the week
Our lovely YO agreed to do the transport for us, and another lovely livery lent us their trailer, so 9.30am saw a booted and bandaged Chloe stood reluctantly on the wrong side of the trailer. I had to use a stable bandage on her tail as it was too thick for a normal bandage
She'd not travelled for about 2 years, but once she saw the lunge whip behind her she marched straight into the trailer and stood happily.
At the other end she hadn't sweated up at all, and made an immediate beeline for the grass she spotted
The school was fairly busy since it was Sunday, but the owner and stable manager came to show us her temporary new stable, in a nice barn, and Chloe walked straight in, and stuck her head in the haybar. I think she's going to like having adlib hay
We sorted the contract (she's on permanent loan there) and unloaded her stuff for them to sort out today. Then the YO made us a cup of tea in the cafe, and we went to drink it with Chloe, and the many admirers who'd heard that a new horse had arrived
She's got a vetting tomorrow to put her on the riding school licence, and providing she's ok, then that's that. I reckon they'll be using her in the school within a week.
When we left her she was still tucking into her hay and looked very happy, so we were very pleased to leave her there in such capable hands.
I had a wobble last night when I only had my horse to do, and Chloe's stable was empty but a nice quiet hack sorted me out
I thought Meg might be upset but so far she hasn't noticed that her neighbour and surrogate mum is missing
My RI is going up to the school tonight, so she's going to give Chloe a pat for me, and make sure she's still ok
No photos I'm afraid as I was too busy but here she is in her Christmas finery just before my mum had to give up riding.
