Downgrading a 4.5t to a 3.5t??? Is this possible?

As title says.......I have a 4.5t horsebox that I only put small ponies on. Is it possible to downgrade the lorry to a 3.5t? Can this be done if with the ponies etc etc Is under the payload? What would I need to do? Would save me taking my hgv!

Dead easy - need to contact DVLA to have paperwork changed

Might need to go to DVSA test centre to have new plate fitted

No physical alterations needed

You will have 1000 kg less payload than you have now

Hi sorry to do this old thread! Just looking at buying a lorry that has been upgraded to a 4.5 but I want it as a 3.5t. Do I literally just send the paperwork to dvla to change and thats it? Thanks!

You will need to establish that when replated your vehicle will have enough payload to take the ponies as a 4.5t will be a heavier vehicle to start with . About 200kg on average.

OP do you know your unladen weight now?
