His normal bit is a Myler mullen mouth with cheeks, so Dr Bristol worked quite well on him. Looks like a trip to the tack shop for a French link snaffle. I guess that would be the next nearest thing?

We use them instead of French links. The centre is a lozenge which spins in the middle so they can't get hold of it. It works on strong horses too.
