Hi all, does anyone know of any drag hunts around the dorset area?

Ive never wanted to hunt a live animal but i love the idea of the chase, galloping through the gorgeous counryside on horseback & alongside fellow equine enthusiasts & following a pack of dogs! :) it sounds soooo exciting! and, ofcourse meeting new people & making friends :)

does anyone know of any good drag hunts in the dorset area? If so, how do you go about joining them? Ive never hunted before so not sure how it all works.

Does anyone else out there drag hunt? whats it like? any info apprieciated! - thanks

So far as I can tell, the New Forest would be the nearest to Dorset (but I'm not great on southern counties geography so stand to be corrected)

FYI - since the ban, you could hunt with any pack as we are all trail hunting now...... :)

You would then have the choice of the Portman, Seavington, Wilton, Cattistock, South Dorset, Cotley or Blackmore and Sparkford Vale, depending on where you are and how brave you are! :)

It's exactly as much fun as you think it will be AWTF. It's grand! You just phone the hunt secretary and ask if you can go. And pay a visitor cap (£40 for us, a lot more in some areas).

If you go with a fox pack then most of them will want to hunt fox and have the ban repealed, so you will have to watch what you say not to make enemies. There are also some packs hunting fox quite deliberately, so if you are firmly against hunting a live animal then you might discretely and very tactfully try and find out that too in case you find yourself streaking across country on the tail of a fox.

And whatever you do don' t call the hounds dogs unless you REALLY want to upset people! They may look like dogs to you and me but not to traditional hunting folk!!

drag-hunting is amazing but not for the faint hearted! we normally have a way round the jumps apart from some hunts, but it's still fast even if you dont jump and esp if your horse wants to be up the front with the master on his 19.2hh when yours is only 15.2hh - my little ones legs work overtime!

most of the draghunt are still firm supporters of fox-hunting so you probably just want to stay out of conversations that way inclined. our cap is £50.
