Okay so I've hunted twice previously with the southern shires bloodhounds, but as I intend to go loads this year to get my mare really going and thinking on her feet (plus I loved it and am getting frustrated with SJ and dressage).

So I was looking at th annual subs for under 18s, and found the Berks and bucks draghounds is a LOT cheaper than SS, and their boxing day meet is on the 27th which suits me better due to family and bf' family all wanting me lol.
So I'm going with them tomorrow, but just mentioned it to someone on the yard and their general opinion was draghunting is way too fast and people who do it treat their horses like sh*t?

So I'm a bit worried now!

I personally always thought it was the same (but that might be my naivity coming through)

but these people were convinced they basically tore round flat out with no respect for their horses :s

I said itsa bit unfair to generalise from 1 meet but it got me a little worried as she isn't entirely hunting fit yet (but says on the web that the october meets are a bit short, slower and easier so I thought it'd be a very helpful way to just finish off getting her up to fitness hehe, so if its gonna be really fast she might not be fit enough which is why I' worried

rubbish - draghunting is fast, but everyone i know treats their horses absolutely fine! I have to say the B&B draghounds have got a bit of a reputation of being faster than some packs but I've never been out with them so couldn't say. I go with the SC&RMA draghunt and they're not crazy - there is a lot of galloping and jumping, although most jumps are optional but the ground is normally good, the jumps are well looked after and we do stop for a rest every now and then!

Thanks :D
We'll just go and see
She's a very fast little horse tbh, she's got a good deal of TB in her and when we went with SS I found I was keeping her at a steady canter even near the front so a bit faster wouldn't bother me

both boring go with a proper pack of hounds far more fun far more sensible on your horse.
I do hope you dont really mean what you have just said!!. There are many many people out there who would like to hunt in some form, but are nervous, worried that they or their horse might not fit in. If you really are a hunting person ,YOU WILL KNOW THIS IS NONSENSE.IIt is not an either/or ,situation.Do both,I spent saturday out with the Surrey Union, and Sunday out with the SC&RMAS Drag. BOTH days were fantastic.
