Had it done on my old mare, when she was a young horse. From what I remember it didn't make a whole heap of difference, it simply filled up again. Called vet out again, a new vet in the practice arrived, took one look and told me to cold hose 3 times a day and apply a "Pressage Bandge" ... fantastic bit of kit, does what it says on the tin. Hock went down and stayed down for the following 25 years.
Cant put pressure bandage on as mud fever has come up leg into trauma area of kick which is the hock.Shes supposed to have it done next thursday but might wait longer. Thanks
When my boy capped a hock from a kick injury it was swollen to twice the normal size for about 2 weeks, and then gradually went down over a couple of months. I didnt have it drained, as there is a risk of infection. I did cold hose it 20 mins 3 times a day and apply an ice pack for about 20 mins 3 times a day for the first week and this helped bring it down a lot. I then used magnetic hock wraps for the next several weeks and now the hock is almost the same size as the other - you cant really tell as he has dark points.
Hi there havent talked for a while, how are you.
I am going to give her longer before taking drastic action.Unfortunately the hock boots(mag) aggrivated her mud fever. She is sore around the hock but mud fever is improving after another course of anit biotics and cortisone injection for swelling.Im massaging twice a day as well .The hock wasnt too bad intil mf started and caused cellulitis.
