When I arrived at the barn today (11:30 am) to clean my mares stall, her water bucket was still full from the night before. She was put out early in the morning (around 6:00 am) and her paddock water was about half full, but I can't be sure if she drank out of it today because it is a large container that doesn't need filling every day. I checked her for dehydration and her skins snaps right back and her appetite is normal. She gets a daily bucket of bran mash (on the advice of my vet from the last time she colicked), about 6 flakes of hay in total and a half a scoop of pellets 2x a day.

Her stall had the usual amount of urine in it, but her manure balls were smaller than usual. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm going to be worried all afternoon now, until I can get out to see her again. :(

You can take a horse to water but you cant make it drink. Dont worry mine aren't drinking their water at night. There is a lot of juice in the grass. She will drink when she wants to.

Mine rarely drinks over night, aslong as they are getting enough in the field I would worry, mine gets a sloppy feed and electrolytes

I've had this problem with my mare in the past when she is stabled overnight - she seems to prefer her paddock water than the lovely fresh water left for her at night.

I foound adding some mollasses worked - and that when she was stabled 24/7 she drank happily. Vet suggested that as their was plenty of grass she was getting much of her water from the grass.
