) either Draycott, Prestwold or Marchington. Could anybody give me a low down on the ground at any of these events? Or any info generally? Any would be greatly recieved. thankyou!

Prestwold is a nice event but the ground is often very hard, they do work hard though as Stuart Buntine and his team are very good at ground work!

I believe draycott have a website with pics on?

Oh thankyou, Ive just been for a look! Looks very big for intro, (even though I dont really mind that much as Im not exactly going to win.) & what the frigg is going on with the water (its red?) However the ground does look level if nothing else!

Aww cool; yes everybody says Marchington is very straight forward. It would ideally be my first choice as I compete there BSJA & BD anyway. My biggest concern with it, is it reknown for being rock-solid (I think they cancelled in 2005, due to pants ground?)

I think so I could be wrong about the ground thing. Plus Im over sensitive to these things as my horse has conf issues! Everybody does seem to agree it is a great first time place!

Yes that is what I have heard too - I am also wary of hard ground - will watch the weather over the next few weeks before making a decision. We were schooling at Eland Lodge a couple of weekends ago - lovely prepared take off and landings at the fences but the bits in between were hard. Love this weather but not what it does to the going!

Yea its horrendous isnt it! I dont think Ive ever known eland to be hard (and Ive worked at PC camp there every August, when it should be solid!) My horse has been lame the last fortnight purely due to this ground, he is often lame in the summer, but never in April! I was very fortunate to get balloted out of Keysoe, but Im now lumbered with a day ticket, so Im desperatly trying to find an event with good ground!

At least the day ticket will last all season, and there are alot of events in the Notts/Derby's/Staffs areas late in the season when ground should be soft. Thats my hope anyway!!

Ah, this is my problem! He is supposed to be be being sold in September. (However due to recent lameness, I might have to keep him.) So Autumn events aren't really an option!

Hi, last year I was into this eventing lark but sadly my horse is but a showjumper or dressage horse

I went with a friend to Draycott and Prestwold and I`ve ridden round Marchington myself. The one with the red water, is quite nice but I thought it would be too much for my horse, there was a few spooky things. I think that this is also the place where they put sand on each side of the fences.
Can`t remember the other one at the moment, unless it is the nice one that looked lovely and inviting with straight forward fences. I can remember the course of one place but not the name.
Marchington was a nice course except for the big ditch but it flowed nicely and it wasn`t too long. I only did this one the day after on a schooling day, and I thought that it was nice. Wherever you decide to go, have a nice time.

Draycott has the red water, Prestwold is a lovely inviting 'hunting' course now some of the twists have been straightened out.

Ha, thank you. I thought that the red water was at Draycott and this was the more `technical` one for me, not for proper eventers tho.

But a few had problems. Yes, it was prestwold that was lovely. It was more natural fences and not too spooky. If I had an eventer, I`d love to do that one.

Ground at Draycott House is not too bad. Its quite flat, but at the HT in March it was a bit rutty.

Red water is not too much of a problem. My mare who is dodgy with water, went straight in.....
